I predicted Temple would be dead last in the conference. I haven’t see anything that makes me second guess that pick. Unless Cincy keeps stinking the gym up. They look terrible.

We've played 3 games with 6 new players, soon to be 7 if/when Battle is healthy. We look better than last year, but I'm not sure how you can come to that conclusion so soon.

Joprior has been consistent in his Temple-last-place prediction. The coaches picked us 11th. I agree there are players who potentially make us better long term, and have been encouraged by some of what we’ve seen. However, this will be an up and down year, especially considering our covid interruptions, and a last place finish is conceivable. I of course hope for better.

Most Memphis fans would agree with you. We certainly have good recruiting classes. But for some reason, we can't yet make them work. Penny has got to figure it out sooner than later.
We are on the road to respectability !

on paper you looked horrible (which is true) which was the basis of his decision, i think his point is that temple has dont anything to change that opinion

for me temple has only played the top 2 teams in conference and the body bag game so its hard to predict where in the middle you are..
but eye test wise you guys are definitely better than i expected preseason

-- freshman damien dunn - who i had medium expectation from, has been way better than i expected
--- freshman Jeremiah Williams- who i had zero expectation for has way exceeded my expectation (in part becuase it was so low)
-- transfer barry is likely (and probably comfortably) going to be the best shooter in the conference- the change in conference didnt affect his stats like many others

-- mooreman, perry and strickland are a bit worse than i thought -- forrester is about what i expected

purely eye test wise- if battle or white are impactful players to any extent, i dont think youll be the worst team in the league
Speaking of Patriot League, Colgate is #16 and Navy is second in the Patriot at #106

Colgate is the headscratcher of the first NET rankings. They have played two games

1/2 - Home vs Army: Win 101-57
1/3 - Home vs Army: Loss 73-75

They played back to backs and won the first by 44 then lost by 2 lol. Somehow that ends up NET 16 (that 44 point win obviously moving the numbers a bit)

Colgate's only two datapoints.
Then Army (108 in NET themselves) DOES have additional games including wins over Buffalo and LaSalle and hanging close AT Florida...I don't know how the math works out....other than small sample skew multiplied by another small sample skew.

I did, that is what a bad coaching hire will do in any sport.

I think it is way early to say McKie was a bad hire. Year 1 started great, playing over their heads a bit, but collapsed due in part to injuries, team dissension and change of culture. McKie will get at least 2 more years to prove himself. If by then things aren’t changing, or are changing too slowly, then I might agree. But Temple basketball is in rebuild/re-culture mode, and additionally, doing so in a pandemic.

2020-2021 is pretty much irrelevant regarding grades in any sport...

private messaging is a thing...just a heads up for you in the future 04-cheers
That Tulane loss was a killer for ECU, would have been top 100 for sure if we hadn't have crapped the bed in New Orleans.
Watch out, Bichez...if UC loses its road games at SMU and Wichita this week we will likely drop below #160 and will then count as a Q4 game. Woot!

The whole point of bringing the conference together was for Tulane to go UP to Cincy, not for Cincy to come down.

Unless they get blown out they aren't dropping. In fact they can play well, keep it semi close, lose and go up with out hurting the rankings of anyone else.

The NET is about how you play as much as who you play the old rules of RPI and bad records killing you are gone. Just make it look good and the NET says no worries.

Well that’s what potentially happens when you lose a staff to a blue blood, there is a mass transfer exodus and then you save about $1.5 million a year on the replacement staff. This might get turned around or UC may have kragthorped itself. There are data points to support both hypothesis. Time will tell.

In the latest NET rankings, #AmericanHoops is the only conference in the nation to have all of its members in the top 160.

Yup, our top doesn't quite match up with the very top conferences, but otherwise we look very good in comparison. If Tulsa and Wichita can get into the top 50 and USF of ECU creep into the top 100 the AAC may end up finishing with its best overall rankings.

Our top slipped a little but the bottom looks so much better we may still sneak in an extra bid more than we think we will now (3) with out anyone unexpected getting the autobid.

That kills teams in leagues worse than, say, the WCC/Valley. I suppose that is a key feature of the design - and not a side effect.
Updated for 1/8 with change from 1/4

Temple is now our biggest drag
Son much for no big swings in the NET. 20 point jump by UC after last night. Could get another big bump on Sunday.
