Kinda odd timing. Fired after 1-7 start. 10-year career record of 124-170. 1 tie for MAC West championship. Probably one of his best teams last year with Eugene German and Lacey James. Not sure what returned this year.

He lost over 50% of his offensive output with three players who graduated but the players he brought in this past recruiting class don't appear to be D1 players. The roster is devoid of talent and this was the last year on his most recent extension. After 10 years and not much to show for it probably best to part ways and start the search because this team wasn't going to be much better with MM in the next few years.

Never good when somebody loses a job. But this will be an opportunity for him to start fresh. Some interim to get some experience and be scrutinized before moving on.
NIU is a graveyard because it’s DeKalb.
It’s devoid of culture and industry.
Like any university it has its bubble and people can operate within it. But there’s nothing west of it, south of it or north of it. Civilization lies east of it and wants nothing to do with it. It’s been a long time since Jim Molinari came in from DePaul in the mid 80’s. NIU was a part of the Mid Continent conference. After a 2nd year of success he got out of Dodge. Even homegrown Illinois bred Rob Judson did just average over an extended period of time only to be let go. That was after he left with Molinari to go to Bradley and then from Bradley to Illinois before coming back to NIU.
There may be somebody who could recruit talent but at this level it takes time for it to develop and right now the trajectory has been downward or flat for quite awhile. Ideal for a PJ Fleck type who paints it a wild color and leaves just before it dries.
