Leading into the New Year, here are the conference bowl records with 8 games to play:

Big 12 4-0
MAC 2-0 (done)
Big 10 1-0
Sun Belt 4-1 (done)
MWC 2-1 (done)
Independents 2-1 (done)
SEC 1-1
AAC 1-4
Pac 12 0-1
ACC 0-2
CUSA 0-6 (done)
MAC seems almost certain to have the top ooc win % vs. FBS this year. They only had 2 ooc games, both in bowls, and won them both. Big 10 is 1-0 with 3 bowl games this weekend and then another if Ohio St. wins.

Conferences done:
MAC 2-0 100%
Independents 23-8 74.19% (without Notre Dame-but also without UConn, NMSU and a full UMass schedule)
Sun Belt 15-15 50.0%
MWC 3-5 37.5%
CUSA 7-26 21.21%

Others:
Big 10 1-0 100%
Big 12 7-3 70%
ACC 6-5 54.55%
SEC 1-1 50%
Pac 12 1-1 50%
AAC 9-11 45%

I think you have to give bonus points to winning NY6 games. The SEC is 3-2 overall, but has two wins in NY6 including a CFP game. That has to mean more than winning the Potato Bowl or the Liberty Bowl.

LOL ... for those who do not like the SEC, pull up a chair and enjoy today, because the SEC is going to go 0-3 in today's games. A ranked NC State team playing 4-6 Kentucky, a 4-5 Ole Miss team missing its two best receivers vs an Indiana team that shoulda been in the NY6? And a TAMU team that thinks it should have been in the CFP playing a meaningless Orange Bowl game.

Enjoy!

With Indiana's loss, the MAC will now officially have the best ooc record this year for the first time ever after usually finishing next to last or last. They are 2-0.

That's interesting.

FWIW, the SEC has wins over five CFP ranked teams so far. And both TAMU, playing now, and Alabama still have games vs ranked teams to go. Their two losses were against ranked teams as well, so the SEC will have played nine bowl games, all versus ranked teams.

Not sure when the last time a conference had bowl wins over five ranked teams. That's pretty strong stuff.
Bowl record prior to the CFP title game between SEC and Big 10 champs:

6. Sun Belt!! 15-15 (gave Big 12 all 3 of their losses back in week 1) 50%

The Big 10 is 3-0 this year. Indiana is not a Big Ten member. They said so themselves!

And the reason the Big 12 is undefeated is because they didn't play any Big 10 teams!

SEC has a strong bowl alignment because their fans show up.
Some conclusions so far.

1. The ACC's 0-6 bowl record shows that the ACC should not have had 2 teams in the playoffs and 3 teams in the NY6. Putting ND in the playoffs started a chain reaction where ACC teams were placed in bowls too high compared to their opponents.

2. The Big 12 should have had at least 1 team in the playoffs and deserved to have 2 teams in the NY6.

3. The Big Ten deserved to have 1 team in the playoffs and should have had 2 teams in the NY6.

4. The SEC overall was not over-rated but probably did not deserve 4 teams in the NY6.

5. Undefeated G5 teams did not deserve a shot at the playoffs.

6. The CFP should be expanded to a 8-team playoff with a 6-2 format, with the top 6 conference champions and 2 at large teams, not from the same conference, making the field. This year the 6 conference champs would be Bama, Clem, OSU, Ok, Cincy, and CC. Pac-12 champ Oregon would have been left out. The 2 at large would be Tex A@M and ISU.

I'm not sure any "conclusions" can be drawn in this COVID year. But it does look like the ACC was over-rated given their abysmal bowl record; especially by Notre Dame and Clemson. OU is playing great right now, but they didn't early in the season - they should end up in the Top 4, but probably didn't really deserve a ticket to the Invitational Playoff. The Big12's record could have been even more impressive if KState hadn't have opted out and TCU-Arkansas hadn't been canceled because of COVID.

Ohio State looked good, but I'm not sure you should extrapolate that into the Big10 looking good. Florida was vastly over-rated - they finished with exactly the same number of losses as TCU, but spent most of the year in the Top 10 (sometimes Top 5). Coastal Carolina, Cincinnati and San Jose State all losing took much of the air out of the G5 argument this year.

I favor an 8-team playoff with all P5 champions, the top-rated G5 champ and 2 at-large teams.

The ACC was bad, and we didn't find that out until they played OOC games, meaning in the bowls.

2. The Big 12 should have had at least 1 team in the playoffs and deserved to have 2 teams in the NY6.

No Big 12 team deserved to be in the playoffs. This Oklahoma team was easily the weakest OK team of the past 4 years, it lost to K-State and I-State and needed OT to beat Texas. And all those better OK teams got wiped out in the playoffs. No reason to think it wouldn't have happened again.

3. The Big Ten deserved to have 1 team in the playoffs and should have had 2 teams in the NY6.

Agree about the playoffs. But who else in the NY6? Not Indiana.

4. The SEC overall was not over-rated but probably did not deserve 4 teams in the NY6.

The SEC has been fabulous, going 6-2 in eight bowl games, including 3-1 in NY6 games, and every game against ranked opponents.

5. Undefeated G5 teams did not deserve a shot at the playoffs.

Yep.

6. The CFP should be expanded to a 8-team playoff with a 6-2 format, with the top 6 conference champions and 2 at large teams, not from the same conference, making the field. This seems to contradict #5. The evidence suggests the top G5 champ doesn't belong in the playoffs, so why would we automatically include one in an eight-team field?
Cincinnati lost on a last second field goal. It's not like they embarrassed themselves like Florida did. I wouldn't use them as proof G5 teams don't belong in an 8 team playoff.
