from the press release;
Conference USA men’s and women’s basketball will move to a divisional standings format for the 2020-21 season, as approved by the league’s Board of Directors.

C-USA will feature East and West divisions and will crown divisional champions at the conclusion of conference play in March. Standings will be based on overall conference winning percentage. In addition, divisional seeding will be utilized for the C-USA Men’s and Women’s Championships. A cross-divisional bracket will be used to determine first-round matchups.

My take: lots of the 3 weekend cross division games will be canceled or shortened to one game, for a myriad of reasons.

ODU's cross division foes are at Rice Jan 22-23 (men), home for the women
home to UNT Jan 29-30, at UNT for the women
at UAB Feb 19, 20 (men), home for the women

I think the UAB games will happen since the are on Stadium, I wouldn't wager on the Rice games (they have plenty of FB cancellations) 50/50 for North Texas
Well that's not confusing at all.

Exactly. What is the benefit other than more teams get to hang banners?
Just cancel the CUSA tournament. Have the East champ play the west champ at the higher seeds gym. I’ve got a bad feeling we are looking at third in the East behind WKU and Marshall.

I'd love an East vs West "Playoff" Style Championship at the teams home courts. 2 out of 3? Or even a top two out of each division playoff at Home courts. Kinda NBA style...

The tourny in texas blows...
UNT UAB weekend set cancelled
Wish they’d do divisional tournaments. Put the East in Charlotte Or Greenville SC. Or myrtle Beach or Charleston.
This year is what it is but I’d definitely be against division BB going forward.
Could divisions be a precursor to a conference split?

Think it is setting up to make the CUSA tournament a one game affair between the winners of each division, due to covid.

I think it'd have to at least be a 4 team affair to be fair at all. So far it looks like WKU and Marshall are the best teams in the conference or at least up there. W#1 vs. E#2 and vice versa then the winners play. Use home courts of the highest seed.

Fair isn’t really the concern here though. The concern is naming a champion and getting the title game played.

Then they could just say best conference record wins, don't really need a title game.

They probably have a contact with the Star Dallas thing to have a championship there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The press release said they plan to play a tournament and not just a title game. Maybe they are building in flexibility to change that if necessary due to COVID but otherwise I don’t see the benefit of changing to divisions.

And TV. I expect there will be a tourney nothings certain these days though
This scheduling system is effed up. I suspected going in that we would see a ton of splits in these 2 game series on back to back days, and in the first week 4 out of 5 series were split.

Effed up or better? It’s like playing a bunch of mini tournaments. Losing teams can make immediate adjustments for the next day. Look at the zone ODU implemented on Saturday.v Sucks for the home team that they aren’t able to hold their ground though.

I don't think it is better. I think losing teams are at an advantage in the second game and that is not fair, but more importantly will not necessarily give us an accurate representation of who the best teams are over the course of the season. I don't think it is like a bunch of mini tournaments, because 2 games is not enough to ensure that the better team is represented over the course of the series.
I dislike it but I understand what they are doing it this way and if its this or no basketball, I will take it. This is a almost throwaway year for college sports, unfortunately.
