win a bowl game.
The guy did a helluva job.
Yep
Also Beat UCF and won at Navy. Finished a crazy year with 8 wins and a bowl win. Can’t wait to see what the team looks like moving forward!!
73% winning percentage has to rank pretty high
Looking forward to next year
Not to diminish this accomplishment, but remind me of the bowl opponents and whether they were P5/G5 that Norvell and Fuentez faced???

Correct...they’re bowl games not CFP games. No one cares who the opponent was, they only care about wins or losses.

This was a win.
Let's all be Happy Tigers tonite! GTG

Losses to

Auburn
Western Kentucky
Iowa St
Wake Forest
Penn St

Iowa St and Wake Forest were toss ups. Penn St got away from us. WKU and Auburn were routs.

Other bowl wins were against

San Jose St
North Texas
Akron
BYU

And losses to

Bowling Green
FAU
South Florida

All time, BYU would be our best win with either N Texas or FAU second best. San Jose St and Akron bring up the rear.

Based on that history, no reason to downplay a bowl win.

Also, no Henderson against ISU and WF. We could’ve won those going away. WKU was the real disappointment of those. The win tonight was different— we wanted to win the game— we knew we were going to win the game— and we won the game.

Best winning % of any first year football coach in Memphis Tiger history. And tied for the most wins (I think).
I think we’ve just sort of shrugged bowl appearances off for a while. This team wanted to end on a high note. There was no bowl week— no special appearances or community outings or whatever before this one— we just strapped up and won the game. We would have won a few more since 2014 if we had this attitude. I'm somewhat pleased with Silverfield for finishing 8-3, but lets not sit here and say that he's setting the world on fire. Despite going 8-3, we haven't played well all season long. Add that with losing the majority of the following players: Goodson, Carter, White, Dykes, Lindsey, Russell, Francis, Patterson, Pickens, Orona-Lopez, and Dorceus, this team is going to lose some quality players. Hopefully, this coaching staff can develop players over the offseason.

Real football fans understand, there is a difference between beating BYU and FAU... but you go on ahead... being.... you.

You have to start back up the mountain where you can. We have to beat a few G5s because that's about all we get due to our conference bowl tie-ins. Then maybe chances against P5s will come if we can keep improving.

8-3 ain't too bad for this shitshow season.

No DeAngelo against ISU and WF either....and I bet the team wanted to win those games as well

Agree. Great first year under the circumstances. Tiger teams less than 10 years ago would find a way to lose games that we pulled out this season.
