For the foreseeable future, this is the most important issue on the table. Someone mentioned that our stock is falling, while UAB’s (and some others) is rising. What does Wood and company need to make happen, and fast, to improve the value of our stock? And please don’t just say “win”.

But that IS the most important criteria. In fact, I would submit that with the current decline in cable television subscriptions AND with that trend likely to continue for at least the next ten years, it is makes winning that much more important.

Our vaunted top 50 television market is less important now.
In the future it will become even more difficult to leverage our market size if we are not winning.
Success in FB and MBB.
Agreed. Winning is the most important thing. I also think our market helps, but we have to be able to prove we own this market too. So we definitely need to do a better job with that. And also show we have the money to compete and the brains to use that money wisely. Lastly, a desire to be tough and do whatever it takes to be successful and a good conference member. Those guys feel snubbed by the P5 and play with a chip on their shoulder. CUSA thanks the P5 for their crumbs. Gotta have swagger. That’s where I think not playing this season hurt is the most.
Need to raise our profile. Location is very good, with a good market. Travel will be a big issue, charter flights are becoming very costly. They are up 50-100% this year. With ODU you would have 4 teams in driving distance. Wish we were in better shape.

I agree with all of that, but most especially owning our market. There seems to be a resignation to the fact that we will not gain wide public support in our market because military, transient, blah, blah, blah. I think that is an excuse. ODU does not push hard enough to win over our local population, in my opinion. I would like to see an all out, decade long, blitz to become the dominant name in sports in the Hampton Roads area, and I would like to see that become priority #1 for the athletic department. Stop accepting old norms as an excuse for not attempting to dominate. Lets make a run at it, and if it fails, we will still be in a better position than we were before the campaign began. When you set artificial limits on expectations, you will never reach your ultimate ceiling.
In the very long term. We need a law school. Successful lawyers become crooked politicians and we all could use a few of those in our back pocket to allocate funds. Seeing the ODU name connected to high profile Drs, Lawyers and Indian Chiefs would do most good, but that won't happen in my life time and probably not yours.

I am not sure that is as important as you might think. Most law students are not undergraduates of that same institution. My Dad went to law school at UofR, but his loyalties were always with his alma mater. Having a law school does not seem to impact much in the way of athletics or donations at W&M.

What we need is an undergrad of ODU who becomes a successful politician..... like Kirk Cox. 03-nutkick

Interesting point.

I don't know. W&M has an athletics related endowment of roughly $95M, that's larger than a lot of University's academic endowments. I don't know if it's law school related but clearly pushing out wealthy alumni for a long time has it's benefits.
More to the point, it looks like the AAC and Boise St might be trying to rekindle the flame. Either as a FB only member or as part of a larger western expansion.
If it’s a larger expansion, it could be similar to the “alliance” with the MWC previously considered. That would leave the remaining three conferences out to dry

I’m thinking that Boise just wants to take a few with them so they’re not on an island. SDSU and maybe another. Could lead to the MWC making a move on our TX schools. That could swing the political power of CUSA to the east which would be good for us.

SDSU isn't really that close to Boise though, it's ~750mi distance between the two. That'd be like saying ODU's gonna go to the Mountain West Conference and we're taking FAU with us so we're not isolated. There would have to be at least one more member in-between to make that work IMO (Fresno St, SJSU, Nevada, UNLV, and Utah St. would all kinda fit the bill geographically, not sure how many either SDSU, Boise, or the AAC would want with them though).

Culturally I could see the AAC taking Boise St, SDSU, and Colorado State, but geography would be a killer.
OR, the AAC gets Boise St. and Air Force, and tries to force Army to join as the 3rd new member so they could have all the academies under one roof.
3-5 years of consistent success and sustained momentum in MBB and FB would go a long way. Some form of academic improvement over that span, however incremental, would also help.

03-thumbsup
Some of our fans are satisfied with our current state. Mediocre won’t cut it with thin margins. The AAC won’t won’t want us and I don’t blame them.
