It's about time. CBS mock draft has Myjai Sanders going in first round at #24. Bearcats haven't had a 1st round draft pick since DT Bob Bell in 1971. The 2020 salary slot is about $13 million over four years.

Quote:7. Stock Up: Edge Myjai Sanders, Cincinnati
During a chat with an area scout this week, he asked where I had Cincinnati edge-rusher Myjai Sanders ranked. I scrolled way too far down my rankings and didn't see him! Panic crept in before I realized I hadn't moved him from a junior to a likely-to-declare player on my list.
That error has been fixed, and Sanders is now ranked as a top-40 player.
An electric athlete off the edge, Sanders has transformed himself from a 215-pound recruit to a 6'4", 258-pound bull of a pass-rusher with the quickness, length and power that scouts fall in love with.
In a group that features a lot of production and a lot of talent, Sanders has the goods to make noise in the edge-rusher group.
Quote:Myjai Sanders, EDGE, Cincinnati
On 10.2% of his pass-rush attempts in 2019, Sanders registered a pressure. This season, the junior has upped that figure to 14% and has developed more effective moves to beat blockers en route to the quarterback. His swim, probably his most relied-upon maneuver, has become deadly.
Loaded with racecar-like explosion off the snap and smooth athletic traits to effortlessly change directions at 6-foot-5 and 258 pounds, Sanders has been the key cog in Cincinnati's swarming defense, and there's room for extra weight on his frame. Plus, his arms go on for days, and he uses them well to keep offensive tackles off his chest when he's rushing. There's some speed-to-power conversion to his game too.
It's a quality edge-rusher class in 2021, but Sanders is absolutely one of the best prospects at his position and will get the "high upside" label because of how his body can continue to fill out once he's part of an NFL strength and conditioning program.

James Smith - #1 P
James Wiggins - #6 FS
Darrick Forrest - #6 SS
FWIW they also have the following ranks for individuals who are not seniors:
James Hudson - #6 OT in 2022 Draft
Desmond Ridder - #7 QB in 2022 Draft
Myjai Sanders - #10 EDGE in 2022 Draft
So we could have a pretty decent draft year depending on who goes, because I think I team might take a chance with someone like Harper, Ponder, Bryant, or White late too.

But we just don’t have the same type of talent as the P5? Lol!
There is a lot of NFL talent on this team. Consider some of the younger guys like Whyle, Ford, Gardner, etc... and there is plenty of talent. With guys like Bryant and Ponder likely to at least get a camp tryout there are potential NFL players all over this team. I was hoping we would retain a few key pieces but putting players in the NFL is one heck of a recruiting tool. Especially if we are putting players in after 3 years.
This is where those recruiting classes and player development become important. If we end up losing the majority of the players it’s time for the next group to step up and keep the momentum.

I think Tony Pike was twice the QB Dez is, and he was a 6th Rd pick.

I don't think he does any of those thing real well. Then again, no one is paying for my opinion.

At some point I think the staff has to trust the players they have recruited and been developing. I’ve been impressed with D Line coach Scruggs but next year may really tell us how good he is.
We have the following in place for next season if Myjai leaves.
Malik Vann
Jabari Taylor
Jowon Briggs
Justin Wodtly
The rest I think are more question marks and the spot we really seem to be missing is the athletic edge rusher. We have some recruits we haven’t seen yet like Iziah Ruffin, Sterling Miles, JahMal Williams, etc... that seem to fit that mold but I’m not sure we have a replacement in mind right now.
