New starting five. Abercrombie and Olivari in for Clark and Havsa. Game that we need to win (UNO has really struggled this year) but won't tell us much.
Well the start couldn't have gone much worse. 10-2 UNO. Rice a solid 0-8 shooting. Defense looking a bit cheese-like.
I like Olivari starting over Clark, but, so far, not working out so good....
So I assume that Ondigo won’t play this year? Or ever? He is still listed on the roster but I haven’t seen any sight of him at the games.

One of the worst things about following a small team. No clue on Ondigo, no injury update on Poteat, no earthly idea what's happening with Hutchins.

One thing we do know is that we kinda suck all of a sudden. 21-15 UNO with 7:01 left.
Yes, just a miserable start. We can make bad teams look so good at times. I think our OCC schedule has really hurt us. As was noted in the Sam game thread their OCC schedule was brutal so they had zero fear about us.
TWO 2pt buckets in almost 17 minutes.
25-20 UNO. Don't even really know what to say. I think we still win but what a shocker of a half. Defense got better as the half wore on (or UNO just regressed).
On pace to score 40 points for the game---ouch!! Reverse jink intended!
Pera must have lit into the guy at half because we're already up 34-30.
For a supposedly weak team, UNO looks stronger and more athletic than Owls
49-43 Rice after an Evee 3. Good for him to see a couple go down.
Another three from Evee. 52-46 Rice, 7:28 remaining.
Really big second half from Evee.
I know it's college basketball but I cannot remember a team that can look so impotent in one half, then shoot the lights out the next.

During my time as a student (Braun era), I observed that it was quite a regular occurrence at Tudor Fieldhouse that Rice would shoot well in the first half and cold in the second, and the reverse true for the visitors.

I theorized at the time that shooting is easier with a backdrop of fixed bleachers than clear windows. Don't know if there is any accuracy to that.
73-62 Rice is the final. 53 points in the second half, which is obviously good. Good for Evee to find some confidence, especially with Olivari struggling. Abercrombie and Havsa were both good, and Fiedler had a good all around game.

Still will need to be much sharper in conference play.
Rice wins 73-62.

Evee finishes with 18pts, Olivari & Abercrombie with 14.

Fielder leads the team in rebounds and assists.
So we complete the Southland Conference part of our schedule at 4-1?

Look at some of the boxes from last year - we definitely did that as well. Maybe the UCSB game to start?

ETA - last year at UCSB, we got outscored 47-27 in the first half, but outscored them 55-34 in the second half. We shot 32 pct in the first half and 76 pct in the second half.
