Nice to be 6-2 at this point. Could be 8-0 but it is still a positive start. Really worried about the lack of assists by the guards. That could be a recipe for disaster in conference. A real positive aspect of the game was excellent free throw shooting by the Owls (at least for this game). This team also seems to be getting to the line more than Pera's teams of the past couple of years (have not checked the facts on this observation yet), but 19-22 is pretty strong. Looking forward to a more substantial testing of this team in conference.

The top of C-USA definitely looks more stout than before. Last year, there were just 3 conference teams among the top 140 in Pomeroy. This year, there are 6 among the top 120.
There's been some talk about whether Malik Ondigo is at Rice anymore... Well, the Rice Basketball twitter account just wished him happy birthday. So that would seem to be a positive sign.
This post may be out of place, but I watched Houston's loss at Tulsa. The Cougars play excellent defense, but my goodness, they cannot shoot. They shot 35.7% from the field Tuesday night. But, as none of their players looked like a shooter, I looked at their results. In 4 of their 8 games, they were under 40%, and in 2 others, they were under 42%.

They might have beaten Rice, but with that kind of shooting, I don't think it would have been a blowout.

Way overrated at #5. They are a top 30 team, at best.
To their credit, they did have a couple of very solid wins to start the season (Boise State, who may win the MWC and who is led by a 6-9 point guard from Houston that no one offered a scholarship to - now he's a legitimate NBA first round pick; and also Texas Tech).

Then, they were decimated by Covid. I believe every single one of their players has contracted the virus. You'd have to think some of them are still not at full strength.
Has any announcement been made about fans at the UTSA games?
