This is my hope too. I honestly think Clark wants to play at least one season in the new stadium and hopefully we can ride the next year into the AAC.

This is my hope as well. If offered he'll take it, but I'm hoping Auburm will view Clark as being beneath them.
Every good coach thinks he could do better with more resources. I can pretty guarantee he thinks he can win a natty at Auburn, and for purposes of this discussion his opinion is all that matters.

To me the key thing will be his loyalty to his staff, because even if Auburn really wants Clark, they are going to want him to upgrade his staff and I’m not sure he’s going to want to cut bait with his guys. I could definitely see a scenario where he takes 2-3 with him with the knowledge that The rest of his guys will still have jobs at UAB with coach Reeves.
reeve for hc and a new oc and we will be fine
The irony is that the things UAB needs Coach Clark to achieve to elevate our program are exactly the things that attract interest from bigger programs. Way better than having a coach nobody would take off your hands. Littrell is the highest paid coach in CUSA. Who is interviewing him this year? That's what we don't want.
As I sit here right now, I believe this is the first time I can ever recall having our head football coach interviewing for another job. Could be wrong, but I don't think so. Tells you where we are now compared to where we've been in the past.
Clarks great but i dont think hes the guy Auburn wants.
Can’t wait for the fan base to be up in arms for our AD to hire Reeves before we even consider our options.

It’ll be like Ehsan all over again.
Not me, which is why I was concerned with what we’d be willing to offer up front.

As others have said, hopefully this gets Clark a raise at UAB and he makes a change on offense to put us over the top.

Me either. It would be like hiring Mike Leach's offensive coordinator. You have to wonder who is really doing the coordinating.
My wife is an Auburn grad and usually keeps up with them. They're a mess right now, lots of division and contention. President is bypassing the AD, as usual a handful of boosters are driving the train, and it is starting to get ugly. The deep pockets seem to want Steele, which makes zero sense. I mean, pay a fortune to fire the coach, then hire his assistant??? The fan base seems to want Sark. And you have to remember, the fans have been unhappy with the last two hires. In 2009, when they fired Tuberville, they went out and hired Gene Chizik, who had gone 5-19 in two season at iowa State. Fans were upset. Then when the wheels came off, and they brought in Gus, a large number of fans were pissed. So here they are again, and the natives are getting restless. By and large, I don't think a Bill Clark hire is going to satisfy them. But I guess we'll see.

Is it not the same guys paying Clark and Kennedy?

And do you know what those two coaches make? I suggest you do some research.

I know what Clark’s making. 1.4-1.5 mil. With at least another 100k following Friday.

One of the mods on here said AK was getting 450k

Clark’s making that much because he earned it through results while here. I just don’t see the top boosters spending that much upfront on somebody new unless they are stellar.

After looking, it’s 500k in year 1 for AK

Who we about to spend a Million on? Gus Malzahn while he collects his buyout?

We’d have to spend at least $900k a year on our next coach just to be in the Top 6 Head football salaries in Conference USA (based on 2019 numbers, 2020 is a bit wonky because of COVID). But continue to talk gibberish...

Hiring Sark could possibly be a masterstroke if he's actually head coach material. Gain a great offensive mind and seriously hurt what looks to be the best part of your rivals team. So Auburn probably won't do it.

If Coach Clark's agent is worth his salt at all, he would have tried to snag an AU interview. It's a proven negotiating tactic. It helped get Mike Anderson's contract deal done.

This isnt an argument. Just a discussion. Why wouldn’t I hope you are right, if the job opened up?

I just still have little faith in some who hold power.
If we have to look for a new coach, give Reeves an interview but don't just default there. With the new stadium, football facility, and recent success we should be able to get a decent candidate pool.

But with that said, we need to do everything we can to hold on to Clark. We need to make him the highest paid coach in the conference (maybe bump him up to $2M), extend the length of his contract, and give staff raises. We can't compete with AU's money, but we can sweeten the pot for him.

There's a limit to how much we can afford, but on the flip side we need to ask ourselves if we can afford to lose him. If we can have a 10-2 type regular season next year, win the conference again to make it 3 out of 4, and lead the league in attendance (and set our own attendance records) the stars might be aligned to move up the AAC. So with that view, I believe next year is absolutely critical. That would truly would put is in a MUCH better position for long term success even after Clark's gone.
Yep, I think he’s still the most important piece to the puzzle as far as getting out of CUSA. I don’t want a revolving door at HC position like Ark state became and what Troy is becoming.

+1
Said this last year... Bill Clark is an old school defensive coach in an era of new age offense. The trend in recent years has been to hire offensive minded coaches. Have you seen UAB's offense? Boosters and administrators at a top level P5 schools do not want to put that on the field. Bill Clark may be on the list, but he is down the list and the only way he goes to Auburn is if the people above him on the list all say no.

If Clark wants to become the top candidate for these type of jobs he needs to change his approach to offense.

BTW
Hope he fixes the offense AND stays at UAB!
I’d think him being the only HC, a successful one at that, would make him the front runner if he’s ready to depart.

I’ve shifted my thoughts as the day has gone on.

You'd think by now I would be used to seeing abject stupidity on an internet message board, but I guess I'm not there yet.

yeah its stupid to change jobs for money.

after all you said about covid, you need to be read-only, you turd.

You said if Clark leaves, it's because he's greedy. That's stupid. And childish. I will not fault him if he leaves, but apparently you will, because you think he's "chasing greed." I say that's a part of life. I've made a career move with better pay. Not because I was greedy, even though I was making a considerably good financial decision. It was also a chance to work in a better place doing better things. So how about grow up and not accuse a man who by all accounts is one of integrity of being greedy if he decides to make a career move.

Read a comment somewhere about how the top level P5 jobs offer "generational $" to their head coaches. The kind of money that will change your family's life for generations to come. I wouldn't blame Clark for one second.
