Okay, it's Shane Beamer who used to be an assistant at SC and is now at OK. Never been a head coach. Don't know a lot about the guy but potentially a reach?

Might be a solid hire. He was an assistant head coach under Riley at Oklahoma so I think that says something.

Normally, I would be a no-go on a guy who had a very successful coach as a father. For whatever reason, those guys tend to live a very different life than the one that made their father successful. Might not be the case with Beamer though. He's had several stops working for people other than his dad.

Typically, the father connection will only get you so far.

I think it helped that they had so many notable players from his era at SC vouching for him, as this made this kind of signing less of a reach, which is especially key if they couldn't get one of their primary picks.
