If the WMU/BSU game is cancelled, Ball St clinches the MAC West, so you can probably count on that game getting cancelled

Well, we will "count" it in this thread when it happens.

Mississippi/Texas A&M off. CBS's 3rd SEC on CBS lost this season, in fact the 2nd time they lost Mississippi/A&M (the other was LSU/Alabama).

LSU/Florida seemed like the more obvious choice for the #1 SEC game. CBS losing their game this week is their own stupidity.

This really hurts TAMU's playoff chances. And IIRC, it is the first SEC game to be officially canceled. There is no way to make this up as both already play on December 19 (or, if they can play on that day, it will only be because other SEC games have been canceled).
Cincinnatta should play A&M, holding on the Yankee Center because we said so.

Not really. They won't drop in the polls. And, it still takes the same break for them to get in. Alabama has to beat Florida and Notre Dame has to beat Clemson for an opening to be made. If so it is a beauty contest between A&M and Miami and A&M quite frankly offers significant market advantages. Besides A&M holds the better wins. Nobody in the Big 12 is positioned to pass them, nobody in the PAC is either and most may not meet the 7 game minimum, and Indiana is the only other challenge they face and while Indiana is a solid team they certainly can't pull the market numbers that ESPN will be looking for.

So Quo, I think A&M is no better and no worse off without playing and if not playing keeps them from COVID exposure and helps them rest maybe they are at least just a wee bit better off.

They are practically handing it over to OSU should they play one more game or two. A&M and UC should be ineligible for the playoff at this point.

And why is that? IIRC Tulsa is unbeaten in AAC play too and with the same number of conference games.

Let me guess - this whole thing smells of boosting Cincy's playoff/NY6 chances by eliminating a "losable' game for them.

Or am I being too cynical?

Because they have won more games than Ohio St. and Ohio St. has a weak schedule, hardly playing anyone with a winning record?

In fairness to A&M, they have played Florida and Alabama, two NY6-level contenders. Cincy hasn't played anyone of that caliber, and Ohio State only a marginal one in Indiana.

I'd rather a team play fewer games but against real contenders than more games against soft-serve competition.

Because they are using Playoff ranking as the tiebreaker.

I think this hurts Cincinnati's playoff chances. Yes playing at Tulsa would give the Bearcats a much better chance of losing but also gives them a much better chance at a quality win and if you believe Cincinnati is behind Texas A&M not having that game is not a good thing. On the other hand, it probably helps the AAC's NY6 chances since Cincinnati will have a better chance of finishing undefeated.

I think it very much helps Cincy's playoff chances. A win over Tulsa would help marginally while a loss would be absolutely fatal. The downside is far greater than the upside. Let's face it: Cincy's chance to make the playoffs does not hinge on them getting credit for winning, such as beating Tulsa. It hinges on attrition - them not losing while teams above them play and lose. Not playing Tulsa on the road this week is a huge boost to the first part of that equation.

Plus, if they beat Tulsa this week, then beating them again in the CCG won't carry as much weight, Tulsa probably wouldn't even be ranked for that game. Now they will be.

IMO, in every way this was a good thing for the AAC and Cincy. Which is what makes me skeptical about it.

In contrast, Michigan canceling vs Ohio State is awful for Ohio State and the B1G. It's only good for Michigan.

Good for IU and Northwestern.
