My son has a theory about the MAC football championship game this year. To summarize, Ball State will win the West and Buffalo will win the East and be undefeated. This will create a Cards-Bulls championship game in Detroit reminiscent of the 2008 championship game between these same two teams when Ball State came in undefeated, ranked No. 12, and heavy favorites only to be upset by the underdog Bulls. The theory says Buffalo will come in undefeated, ranked somewhere in the top 20, and heavy favorites this year only to see Ball State turn the tables and win the championship. Not likely? Remember, this is MACtion afterall.
We have to get by CMU and WMU first, which will be a tall task
Also are we worried about the game actually getting played in Detroit? I know Michigan has some strict COVID rules.. I can see that being a potential issue.
It would seem odd for them to cancel the Detroit bowl game but allow the MACC to be played there.
I'll try three possible answers:

1). Yes, it is possible that 2020 MACC will be the opposite of 2008. The only difference no BCS game as stake.

2). Last time I checked D-I schools in MI have been playing home games, without fans. I see no reason why a MACC can't be played.

3). The bowl game would have been a big money loser so it could have "Because of Covid-19..." I doubt anyone wants it played, including the B1G, other than say UB. UB might want to win the MACC and play a B1G team in Detroit.
It's looking more and more like this is a real possibility. .Covid-19 might be the biggest impediment standing in the way of an historic rematch.
The theory is getting closer to reality . Buffalo is ranked No. 24 today.
In 2008 Ball State completed its undefeated regular season at home with a win over---you guessed it--Western Michigan. The possibility that the Cards will meet Buffalo in the MAC championship game will be determined Saturday when the Broncos visit Ball State for the West Division title.
I think the WMU/BSU game gets cancelled due to COVID.

I thought about that upset in 2008 as well... but Let's face it, UB losing in the MACCG to the Western Champ would not be shocking in any way. I think they would've had their hands full at Ohio but the Bobcats cancelled. So there ya go, ranked in the Top 25 without even playing.
As others have said, I just hope nothing pops up to put the game jeopardy. I want to see the game and have the Championship decided on the field.
The theory has reached its final chapter. Buffalo has finished an undefeated regular season ranked in the top 25, and Ball State has won the Western Division championship. This sets up a reprise of the 2008 MACC game next Friday in Detroit. A Cardinal upset win would fulfill the theory. MACtion at its best.
I think the Buffalo coaching staff will be showing the team highlights.... err lowloghts of the 2018 game all week.

Yes, I can appreciate the theory as I often come up with stuff like that. I'd buy into it more if UB had not blown a late 29-10 lead vs. NIU in 2018 for the Championship. Now Leipold has their full attention and the UB players will be doing everything in their power to make amends for that choke job.
The theory is now reality. Ball State turned the tables on Buffalo. The 2008 nightmare has ended. Cards are MAC champs. MACtion is the best entertainment college football has to offer. You gotta love it.
Was the MAC East competition not as strong overall as the MAC West this year?

Sure looked like BSU was better after running the West gauntlet to get in that championship game.

Well BSU lost to Miami with our QB out most of the game.

Let me know what your son thinks are the lottery numbers coming up.
