Do they not care? Are they not aware of all this? Do they not take note of the constant, ongoing testing? Or, are the simply that selfish?

Yes, people doing all the right things and trying to avoid it at all risk can still mysteriously catch this thing. But those are rare. One or more of a bball program are hitting an inside straight. How many of the football or MRD’s are reporting cases?

Those programs number in the hundreds. Not dozens.

See the thing is we just don't know. It's easy to sit at home and judge 18-22 year olds for doing something wrong. Fact is we don't know. Athletes and staff are having to test negative at least 3x a week. I haven't had one of those things stuck up my nose yet and I really don't want to, but these guys are reminded every day that there is a highly contagious virus going around, and if they make poor choices they won't get to do the one thing they want to do: play ball.

To chalk it up as "do they not care" I think is a slap in the face. They know what's at stake. They're more disappointed than a couple of us diehard fans are to not watch them take on Maryland on NBC Sports today. To say they should get their collective **** together kind of makes me rage. The people I encountered in the grocery story today not covered up or not caring about community spread need to get their sh!t together, not some college kids that have already had this impact their season because they have been educated on what to do right and how their actions have consequences.

If you're going to use round numbers, consider that JMU's population right now is closer to 5,000 not 50,000. Classes are online for the rest of the year. Campus is a ghost town. The majority of students are not present in Harrisonburg. I read yesterday from Alger that less than 1/3 of the population is on campus. Learning has been distant for two weeks now. The Health Center's daily reporting hotline is closed for the semester. Could there have been a single case reported yesterday? Sure. JMU has had single-digit new cases daily since September... but if you get the digest daily then you already know that.
does any fan base overeact more than ours?

i guess, gonzaga is twice the embarssment as us as they have had two cases and their game against #2 postponed. must be careless, reckless kids who dont care

there has to be 20 hoops teams with suspended play and just as many football. but lets judge these guys because we are dissappointed. you can take every precaution and still get infected. i am not anti mask, but if it was as simple as that, we would not be having explosive growth. unless you expect these kids to live in a bubble, there will be infection
There is so much still unknown and so many misconceptions about this virus and the ease of the spread. It could’ve easily been picked up in a dining hall on campus for all we know.

Obviously no one in the entire program wanted this to happen but it did and we won’t be the last team to have this happen. Fortunately the majority of students will be home second semester
Dunk, we have the Myrtle Beach football team to watch today. Not all is lost.
blaming someone for getting infected by a very contagious virus is mind numbingly stupid. Are you going to blame every person in a long term care facility for getting infected by a virus? I know about 5 people in my office that have gotten it. Does anyone blame them? No. Its an insane thing to do.
To keep things in perspective I believe about half the Caa is in pause at the moment - JMU W&M Towson Elon also Northeastern with a self imposed pause of winter sports until I believe 12/18.

Errrrrr, sounds like we mostly agree.
Moreso If the campus density has been reduced by some 90%.

Sounds increasingly like someone decided to NOT abide the protocols all the rest of us are striving for, hence yes: couldn’t keep their schit together.

It’s bubble time for these guys and gals, it’s what you’re getting paid for.

Do the right thing(s). Don’t do the other wrong things.

Thanks for the reminder, just tuned in. Coastal takes the lead.

And folks? Simmer. All my postulations were clearly questions.

As in, how could someone with this much on the line in a matter of days, with constant testing, also be putting themselves and others in harms way?

Maybe I simply shouldn’t care either. 04-coffee
The blame lies with the ignorant protocols, not the kids or anybody else. It's an impossible standard and guarantees failure. Positive, not positive, who cares? College age kids are not at risk of serious consequences any more than the flu. The fact we are now blaming students shows just how brainwashed everyone is.

It’s not that college age students are at serious risk of dying or long term health issues, it’s that they are able to transmit it to others who are at greater risk. How many times has that been explained to you?

14 million plus have been infected, and “only” 270,000+ have died...with daily COVID deaths now tipping over 2,000 a day.

Protocols to limit transmission are not ignorant, but comments like yours are extremely ignorant.

It’s also not a fact or certainty that college aged kids aren’t at risk of long term health issues as a result of contracting the virus.

Exactly Longhorn!

When the virus first showed up there was no data but at that time science understood and supported the benefits of wearing a mask. Scientist went to work collecting data sifting through many variables and setting standard protocols to help prevent infections. Until we get a vaccine, scientist have determined that masks are the single most effective method to prevent the spread of infections. However, no one ever anticipated how much spread would be transmitted by ass holes.

Actually when the virus first showed up the esteemed Dr. Fauci discouraged wearing a mask. On March 8, 2020 Dr. Fauci said:

“There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences — people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”

March 8. “Not perfect “. Kind of cherry picking to try and make a point . Intellectually dishonest .

I’d say the chorus from professionals is pretty unanimous and that is not seriously debated at this point .....9 months after this new virus hit .

Not cherry picking at all, my comment was in response to saying when the virus first showed up the experts said we should wear a mask.

FACT - March 8th was still in the early stages of the response.
FACT - Dr. Fauci is supposed to be the top infectious disease expert in the US and one of the top in the world.
FACT - Dr. Fauci said we shouldn’t wear masks

Your response about 9 months later has nothing to do with a comment about the onset of the virus to which I was responding.

Fact: Dr Fauci has clarified his position hundreds of times since that date and to suggest he thinks masks are not helpful is silly. You have to ignore a ton of statements to use that March 8 statement to try and make a point .

And I would suggest his main premise was to let you know that masks were not 100% effective so don’t let your guard down and avoid taking more precautions just because you have a mask .

But I’m done arguing with you . It’s not even debatable at this point

the data on masks is at best, inconclusive. probably some benefit, but at best marginal, especially 90% of what i see people wearing (cloth Washington Caps Mask - yeah ok), but no harm in complying. yet everyone is focused on masking as the solution. the only conclusive and effective mitigation it seems to me is distancing. so you are left with complete lockdown or managing the spread and protecting the vulnerable. to ask the young and low risk to put their lives and livelihoods on indefinite hold was never going to work.

why we are not focused on isolating the vulnerable and high risk is beyond me.

- if you are elderly or high risk, lock your ass down
- if you are young, healthy and low risk, wear a mask and distance, but go about your bizness
- if you are a business, mitigate the risk as best you can with distancing and masking
- if you are young and healthy and circulating, stay the f' away from the vulnerable

is that so hard?

instead we get, lockdown, everything is cancelled, dont go for a walk, dont drive your car, while our supposed leaders do just the opposite. and we are surprised their is non compliance. our leaders are idiots

Thanks for again arguing a point in the now about the last 9 months about a comment I made which clearly proves another comment about the onset of the virus to be wrong. Nowhere have I ever argued the merits of wearing a mask today or the past 9 months, nowhere have I disputed Dr. Fauci flip flopping. That you can’t comprehend my response to that comment tells me all I need to know...have a good day.
I understood what you meant Hammer. Like with any disease, the science evolves over time. What the experts know and say can and likely will change over time as the information/data changes. You used Dr. Fauci’s initial comments as an example of this.
