TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl
Legion Field (Birmingham, Alabama)
Noon on ESPN2 and the ESPN App
Bonagura: Memphis vs. Mississippi State
Schlabach: Memphis vs. Mississippi State
Always thrilled to go bowling. Wish AAC had better ties. Sounds odd to say after so many abysmal seasons, but we are better than this Bowl. Will have been the 3rd time in last 6yrs.....

Birmingham is an SEC opponent. It usually goes to the 2nd or 3rd best AAC team, despite Legion Field..

IMO, we aren't finishing high enough to go there. It will be Tulsa or SMU or whoever. My guess is we wind up either in Montgomery, or one of the minor Florida Bowls.

Also, the new stadium is scheduled to open in B'Ham for this bowl next year.
Montgomery is a great place to visit and stay

And about an hour from my house.

I've only driven through there as fast as I could on the interstate.

Actually, the two most popular roads in Montgomery are the Interstates, 65 or 85, and the runway at their regional airport. Both are the fastest getaways.

Yeah the tie-ins for the AAC are lackluster. Here is a link showing all the conferences tie-ins earlier this year.

https://collegefootballnews.com/2020/03/...conference

Code:
The American Athletic Conference doesn’t have a true pecking order. The bowls matchups are based on best possible games and geography.

– TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl vs. SEC
– Fenway Park Bowl vs. ACC
– Military Bowl presented by Northrup Grumman vs. ACC

Still to be determined among the Group of Five conferences
– Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl vs. Conference USA or MAC
– FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl vs. Sun Belt or MAC
– Myrtle Beach Bowl vs. Conference USA or MAC or Sun Belt
– New Mexico Bowl vs. Conference USA or Mountain West
– Tropical Smoothie Cafe Frisco Bowl vs. Conference USA or MAC or Mountain West
– SoFi Hawaii Bowl or Conference USA vs. Mountain West
– Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl or Conference USA vs. Big 12

Alternates if the one of the other conferences can’t fill the spots
– SERVPRO First Responder Bowl vs. ACC or Big 12
– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl vs. SEC or ACC

Right now both Jerry Palm from CBSSports and Brad Crawford from 247Sports have us in the Gaspirilla Bowl.

Palm: Virginia Tech vs Memphis

Crawford: Georgia Tech vs Memphis

I wonder which of those two would Tiger fans prefer. 03-lol

+1
Memphis will not play Mississippi State in a bowl game. The reason is that we're scheduled to play the Bulldogs for the next two seasons. College football teams will try to prevent that as much as possible.

I know the rules, and those things are important... but if the LB can take us they will.
This bowl season is going to be a nightmare as far as scheduling. I think bowls will try to go as local as possible, so Liberty would not surprise me at all. This actually wouldn't be a terrible year for Birmingham, either.
One of the wildcards will be how not having a winning season requirement will affect slots. Hypothetically, all conferences should be able to fill their contracted slots, since you can just plug a losing team in. But I think in reality, a lot of losing teams (and maybe even some winning teams) are going to opt out of games. This is why I think Liberty-- it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Big XII or SEC (or even both) opted out of the LB.

It also wouldn't surprise me if there were a fair amount of "trades" between conference affiliations for local bowls. I could see a very creative bowl landscape.
I'd rather go to Birmingham after the new stadium is built.

Liberty Bowl makes sense. Memphis vs Vandy.

If we play GT we should just lay down and let them win.

We still owe them big time for the burden they took off us.

In essence, we gave them $1,255,000.00 to take him. Our debt is paid.
