Chattanooga, East Tenn. State, Western Carolina, VMI and The Citadel from the SoCon to ASUN.

Lots of Louisiana schools in the Southland. Always has been. Central Arkansas is kind of the outlier. Along with Abilene Christian to the west. 4 of the Texas schools are in the east + one in San Antonio and one in Corpus Christi.
Central Arkansas came from the Gulf South Conference which did not have any Texas members. There probably isn't any attachment to going into Texas or the Southland conference and they may prefer to be in an FCS conference with SEC like geography

Central Arkansas presumably likes to be with more like-minded institutions and particularly, recruiting students and student-athletes in Texas.

If the four Texas institutions (more notably SHSU, SFA & Lamar) leave, there's no like minded schools in Texas and travel to an ASun that features those old Gulf South rival schools is just as, if not less far flung than some of what UCA is seeing in the Southland.

From what I gather, Central Arkansas knows they need an exit strategy particularly if there's something brewing deeper with the Texas institutions leaving the Southland. Kudos to them for having this 60-day window and having "options" on the table.

That's a little far fetched David...

Chattanooga would be the only one to consider the move, and that's just because of JSU, KSU and UNA.

The rest of them shouldn't consider it.

Some of the Louisiana schools were in the original Gulf South Conference as well.
I'm not sure why the moving of these 3 schools to the A-Sun is still being discussed here as if it's happening. Wasn't this debunked as a rumor spawned by the A-Sun supposedly reaching out to the schools, despite there being no upside for any of them to move to the A-Sun? The feeling has to be mutual, folks.

Goodman reported they're likely to move for next season.

Goodman reported they're likely to move for next season.

And then we had articles like this splash cold water on the idea: https://www.annistonstar.com/sports/jsu/...3dbc5.html

If Goodman's wrong about JSU, what makes you think he's right about the other two?

And once again, no one has provided a plausible explanation for why these teams would move to the A-Sun. Even my efforts to explain it were clearly stretches.
If you’re going to try some UAC scheme out why not go for all the Non-Texas Southland schools?

if you’re feeling really frisky look into WTAMU, UTA, and UALR as additional members.

The arrival dont say it will not happen...

And Goodman is usually a reliable source of information.

What you consider plausible may not be of any interest to the schools involved. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes.

Why are you so worried about people talking about it? Seems like it bothers you...

Not worried, just curious, since it doesn't make sense on the face of it. I have no personal stake in any of these schools or conferences. There certainly could be something going on behind the scenes, but the most logical conclusion one can draw from the facts at hand is that no such moves will be taking place. Schools are out for their own interests in conference realignment, and there's no gain from moving to the A-Sun from more stable and more prestigious conferences -- not much more prestigious, but the A-Sun is almost as low as you can get in D1, and schools don't move down unless there's a reason*. Even Goodman didn't confirm it, he just said "likely".

* Liberty had a reason, of course, but you won't be seeing schools flock to FBS, especially in an economic climate where nearly all schools are bleeding money.

UTC might like to leverage itself to get something it wants, like OVC membership to get ETSU with them in SoCon, but I don’t think ASun offers them anything. I doubt any of the SoCon schools bite on this one. If SoCon wanted to expand, no games needed...it just needs to ask a Big South or ASun school.

I think the OVC is a step down from the SoCon, no?

I’d think so, but, OVC doesn’t exactly overlap with SoCon the same way Big South or ASun does. And I’ll hand it to UTC that it leveraged the TN system and proximity to OVC schools to get what it wanted. SoCon at that point was trending a bit down and for UTC, who knows? Maybe there was value at that time moving to a bus league. Shrewd considering these guys had interest from Sun Belt.

Some think that UTA and UALR will be booted out of the Sun Belt for not having football, despite the conference actually voluntarily giving them full shares of the FB payout.

I’m not suggesting they’d say yes, just that it’s worth a try. If their budgets have taken a big hit going local might be appealing.

UT Arlington left the Southland for the WAC and then the Sunbelt when it looked like they were going to add football back. I dont see them going back as being in the Sunbelt gives them the ability to join FBS should they ever add football back.

UALR joined in 1991 with Arkansas St. I dont think they would leave especially if it was to go to the Southland and be the only AR school in the league.

The Sunbelt has created a nice TX/AK/LA western division and travel really isnt that bad overall I dont think.
