After reading the article, I see why Toledo offered him. He checks all of the boxes that TK looks for in a recruit, i.e. unselfish, leader, versatile player, very good shooter, hard worker, high character, high academics, comes from winning program, etc. He should fit great with the culture of the Toledo Program. His teammate Trey Kaufman is a big time player with offers from several powers including Indiana and North Carolina.

Early signing period ends Nov. 18. Any thoughts on another signee?

2021 G/F George Mangas (Lima Shawnee) – Looked like his usual self, impacting plays all over the floor, always being around the ball, and playing with great efficiency. Doesn’t force things, scored it off the bounce and the catch, displayed that quick release from the outside. Ran the floor well for easy ones. Was involved in multiple turnover creating plays on defense, using his smarts and length. Better athlete than he probably gets credit for. Steady, and able to get you a bucket as needed. Can’t argue that he is the top available senior in Northwest Ohio.

Me? Noooooo. I wouldn't have access to anything that can't be seen at a game or on tv. I did once overhear a parent at a football game give away a tidbit, years ago. Without another bit of coincidence or stalking, I wouldn't learn of anyone's college plans.

I hope Mangas is as undervalued as I think and I hope UToledo gives him a chance. But I do think he'll get P5,somewhere.

Mangas does not have any D1 offers, so I doubt anyone is gonna rush in at the end of early signing to grab him. Most likely, he plays the season and is scouted more closely. Then, if he is the P5 material some folks think he'll end up in the Big10 or whatever. If he's a MAC player the MAC offers will start accumulating. If he's the D2 player he is now considered to be then he heads off in that direction. I'd note that with the COVID eligibility waivers this is a tough year for HS seniors to get offers. There will be some tilting of the college programs toward older players for the next couple years and some marginal HS talents will go small college or juco.

On a related note, most of the guys UT recruited hard for this class remain unsigned. While several committed elsewhere in October and signed at other schools this past week, guys like Ziegler, Harris, Sayles, Figueroa, Emejuru, Jihad who UT has been on and who remain reachable (Ilver has since been offered by several P5s and is probably now out of reach) are all still unsigned.

Watching tape on Mangas reminds me of the better players from Hillsdale or Findlay we have seen that come into Savage and have big games against UT. Very skilled players who would have thrived under Bob Nichols in 1980's era. .
