Such a unique season where you can actually add games as the season progresses.

BYU should do everything they can to play @Army on Friday, 11/27. That could be a CBS broadcast game, even if Army falls to Tulane or Georgia Southern over the next two weekends. If it's just not going to happen, consider Marshall for 11/27 or 11/28.

Then, wait.

See how SMU handles Tulsa and Houston. If SMU is still ranked after 11/21, BYU-SMU on 12/5 would be a great game.

See how Liberty handles NC State and Coastal Carolina. That's an option for a great game on 12/19.

Also, don't completely disregard a potential 12/19 game against a good P5 school. COVID can create opportunities...or there might be a school looking for a season-defining game that could leap them into a better post-season situation.
I think our AD might have reached out. This game should happen between the Cougars and the Herd

...

On 1280 the zone today one of the producers said he talked to "sources" who said Army basically doesn't want to reschedule the BYU game at this point. They just want to find a spot to reschedule Air Force in addition to their current schedule and they are content. Pretty much makes sense though since they already have their bowl game invite, their academy trophy games, and they really wouldn't gain much by winning and would blemish their solid record with a loss. So if they are correct at all, the Army game could be dead.

Marshall on 11/27 would be interesting. Then maybe wait and see if there is a P5 team willing/able to play on 12/19? Even if you only pick up 1 more game that is better than sitting 3 weeks out of 4 at the end of the year when other teams may jump you in the rankings.
Unfortunately for BYU, the P5 are going to avoid them. I wonder if one of the other hot G5’s would risk a loss by matching up against the Cougars from Provo?
BYU Marshall and BYU Liberty would be fun games
BYU vs Marshall seems like an obvious one.
The team they get will be the one with the most to gain. I don't know who that might be, but someone is going to feel like they have something to prove for this season.

The reasons for ruling out Army listed above are valid. Every team has its own equation.

SMU or Liberty will most likely be a lot like BYU, willing to play a tough game and risk a loss for the reward a win would provide--a higher ranking, bigger bowl game with a higher pay out etc.

P5 teams will avoid them like the plague lol!
And #15/16 Marshall. Wouldn’t be the best available???? Lol
10-1 Miami Hurricanes?
BYU/Marshall & BYU/Liberty seem like the likely outcomes.
I know the Marshall fans want this game and I will bet the team does too. Let’s see where we are. Let’s go to Provo and play. If we lose, so be it. We can still win the conference and if we don’t try, we cannot pass Cincy for the AB. And, we have history. We embarrassed BYU in 1999 and they might want their shot to return the favor. And if they cream us, more power to them. What say you BYU? Let’s lace em up and snap the chinstraps and play.

Yes, Marshall has every reason to play this game. With CUSA being so bad, there is basically zero chance of even an unbeaten Marshall getting the NY6 bid - unless something big is done to disrupt the narrative, and a win on the road at top-10 BYU would be big.

And if you lose, well, there's still the CUSA title to claim.

That would be a great game!

Louisiana-Lafayette, App. State, and UCF would also be interesting opponents.
BYU Liberty seems like a natural to me. If they win out, they could both be top 10 teams.
Care to fly into ATL, BYU?

Only as a last resort, meaning as opposed to playing no game at all. Traveling to Atlanta does BYU no good, and beating Georgia State is only better than not playing.

BYU will want to schedule teams like Liberty and Marshall that are ranked.

Cincy would have to lose twice. If we happen to beat BYU, we would jump Coastal by a lot. We are ahead of them in one poll anyway.
Let's have an unofficial Independents Championship between BYU & Liberty! We fans here in Lynchburg are biting at the bit to play y'all! 04-cheers
