He shared the info on Twitter. I assume that it was budget related. Cutting wherever possible.

Don't know what's next for MBB and WBB games.

No one was better prepared than Chad. His voice, articulation, game flow are excellent. Always well prepared for the games.

He will be missed. To me he is a legend like John Fountain.
Heartbreaking. Chad Bush is phenomenal. I hope we can welcome him back in the future.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if he gets scooped up by a bigger program to do their radio/media. He's good enough to do the job anywhere in the country.
He was fantastic. I hope it’s something temporary, but it doesn’t seem that way. Bummer. I will miss him.
Seemed like this might happen after Chad did not get the substitute football job last season.

Still stinks. Chad loved EMU men's basketball, and it came across the dials every time I tuned in.
So WEMU hoops games will not be broadcast? I loved listening to John and Chad.
aw man, this one hurts. He clearly loves calling EMU games - it's a part of what makes him such a good play by play guy. i'll miss him.

Agree. We (EMU BBall) don't always win. And as BobW will remind us that we haven't won big in over 20 years, but listening to John and Chad have made EMU hoops so much the better.

I watch college and NBA hoops are they are littered with mediocre broadcasting talent. Some are 'unwatchable' or 'unlistenable.'

If we had the fandom of say MSU, Duke, KY, etc. we'd have people not protesting the election tomorrow but protesting the loss of our beloved broadcaster.
Wonder how much money we would need to raise to keep Chad on the air?
Released via letter?
Or am I reading too much into that.
Chad was a very good broadcaster and stayed that way for MBB. The last few years with WBB, however, has not been as good. In fact, he not only messed up opponent’s names, but sometimes even our own student-athletes. For as prepared he seemed for the men, he seemed equally unprepared for the women.

Doesn’t mean I think he should have lost the role bc of it, I’m just pointing out a fact. I know I am in the minority by not missing a women’s game, but if the new person reads the notes they’ll be more prepared.

My assumption is that one of the “in-house” broadcasters will become the main basketball voice for WEMU. Whether that is Ryan Wooley or Tom Helmer. Both are extremely professional on the TV side, and are both great PxP guys.

That raises more questions than it answers.

There is an ole saying, "never let a good crisis (e.g., Covid) go to waste."

'79 raises an interesting question: Will we even have games on radio? Will we get the games via ESPN+, etc.?

Time will tell. The start of the college MBB season should be in 3 weeks.
Shouldn't our AD be explaining these moves before he makes them?
Just an FYI:

I have written to AD Scott Wetherbee about Chad's termination.

I suggest others who support Chad to do likewise.

If you wish further information my thoughts and letter, feel free to PM me.

Those of you on Twitter, etc. may also wish to spread the idea of a letter (email) campaign if you wish to publicly support Chad.
I was thinking of maybe a Go Fund Me account, not that I am volunteering to lead it but certainly would contribute.
Splash city! Hopefully we get a good replacement. Dery, Wooly, or Beligian might be good replacements.

Splash city! That's a good one. I also like "hoop and a harm".

Dery would be a good choice.
Wonder if we are going to use students to broadcast games and save big bucks. I bet like in the pros Visiting teams media cannot attend away games. Could also just be streaming the games.
I would suggest that those of you who support Chad to write to AD Scott Wetherbee. scott.wetherbee@emich.edu

I wrote and got a reply.

As I understand it, these broadcasts are joint efforts of EMU athletics and WEMU. Financial issues could be with the athletic department, WEMU or both.
If I had to head to Philly to put money on who takes over I'd split my cash between Wooley and Helmer. I can with 100% certainty guarantee it will not be a student.

Again, it should be noted, Helmer was chosen over Chad for the football sub job (which should have been an indicator for Chad's standing) and is back with the football crew this year. Have to imagine that this not only puts him in the stable of broadcasters, but near the top of the list.

I'd prefer Wooley over everyone. An EMU grad who truly bleeds green and white.

Dery was fine as the color analyst and I think he'd be better as a PxP guy. He might be on the list, but I would have to believe he'd only have a chance if Wooley and Helmer decline.

I think you are the closest to the the truth.

I think there are a lot of 'moving parts' or interested parties.

Steiner is the key player for EMU athletics. He is media relations for the department. WEMU has a seat at the table but I doubt they involve themselves in hiring and firing on air broadcasters.

There have been a number of EMU Media Relations people who have left in the last few years. That always had me wondering...

Sounds like a lot of intrigue to me. In an enterprise a person says "I want to spend more time with my family..." and you learn they don't have a family... you kinda think something is up.

Just a footnote: I wonder how Heather would have handled this. Chad had a lot of favor with many going back a number of years. I doubt Heather would have signed off on it. Scott is new and doesn't have the deep roots that Heather and others had.

Not a good thing for EMU athletics. Chad is much, much too good of a talent to lose.

As we say: "Self-inflicted wound" by the athletic department.
