I figured very few MAC teams would bowl this season, and one of them would be Detroit due to proximity (drive in, drive out). But with it sitting out, along with other bowls likely to close up shop for the year, I suspect only the MAC champion will bowl.

And it's understandable. Tough year to spend money flying across the country to play a Sun Belt team in a pandemic, only to have limited/no social activities for the players and empty stadiums.

I will be amazed if we have any bowl games this season. I think it is going to come down to conference championships... and the eventual 4 to 6 team national championship playoff... and thats all. Without fans it makes very little sense to open up some of these venues...
I'm expecting just the MAC champ to go, maybe the runner up too
There are still 34 bowl games plus the two playoff bowl games so there will still be plenty of teams going bowling. I would expect more than 1 MAC team to get a bowl bid.

I wouldn't be surprised if more "minor" bowls pull the plug, especially if case counts really go through the roof. And I also wonder if one or more MAC teams (outside of the division champs) would decline an invite.

In normal years, you go when asked. But I bet a 3-3 MAC team short on funds will think long and hard about whether to charter a flight somewhere and book blocks of hotel rooms.
