Carey too married to his OC to have a chance to be a winner in the AAC. Left too many points on the board in the first half against Memphis. Can't make a 2 point conversion to save their lives. Defense? Where?
Losing to Memphis on the road, may as well shut down the program

Don't worry. Interim AD Fran Dunphy will step in and make sure the offense gets some pizzazz.

Wait...

Temple is experiencing what Coogs went through, which is to say, there is only so much coaching turnover (even the good kind) that a program can endure without it eventually catching up with their recruiting and therefore depth.

Certain amount of truth to this.

We still have a few Rhule recruits, but not for long. That being said, Rhule and Co. knew how to develop players and game plan. Collins was not the recruiter as advertised, was not a good game planner, and was certainly eyeballing moving on from day 1. Carey has work to do, both with inherited players and recruiting. From what I have read, he is improving relationships with PA and NJ HS coaches which will be critical. Whether he can bring us back to the top of the American remains to be seen. But he will get the opportunity to build the program as he sees fit.
Carey did nice job at No Ill.
Illinois is 5th largest state and Illini is complete disaster,
So he had alot of things going for him

He did, and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt with his own recruits. He does offer stability at the position, something we have not had in a while. The Memphis game was very disappointing because I thought there was much less 'precision' than he advertises as a coach, you know, focusing on the fundamentals and all that.

Didn't Temple have problems getting practice time because of "CITY RULES" which weren't applied to the Eagles organization early in the season. 04-jawdrop 03-banghead 01-france 07-coffee3

What will 3, potentially 4 coaching changes in one season get you?

It’s such a ass backwards year. See how it plays out.

Memphis didn’t start playing until the second half.

If you scrutinize Carey's record at N. Illinois, you'll find that his record wasn't that impressive.

Why? As he himself has said, he totally lucked into the job when the outstanding N. Ill HC passed away and left him with a lot of great recruits. He had enough coaching ability to take those recruits through a couple of very good seasons, but after that, things got pretty ordinary, pretty quickly.

Carey hasn't won a bowl game in the past 6 or 7 seasons. The only successes he had were in a third-tier MAC conference, in which he was never able to win more than 8 games once he had to rely entirely on his own skills to oversee recruiting and every other aspect of coaching.

In sum: Carey was a pretty good MAC coach...not a great one, and certainly not a legendary one.

He is not a "pretty good" AAC coach, and there's nothing in his recent resume that suggests that he will be able to become one. His recruiting has been lackluster, and the only reason the Owls won 8 games last season was because they lucked out with a schedule that had them play 6 teams with losing records. In two seasons, his teams have only won two games against opponents with winning records.

Carey had a lot of success at Northern beating Big 10 teams with MAC recruits.

He's not a great coach or anything, but Dave Doeren isn't dead.

Do you ever get anything right?
