Iowa State, Kansas State, West Virginia and Baylor could be candidates not this year, but in the future. Then what will the Big XII do?
Huh?
Why would those four leave the Big XII? Where would they go?

Iowa State and Kansas State possibly the Big 10. West Virginia possibly the ACC. Baylor, one more scandal and they could be out.

Iowa State is being blocked from any B10 consideration by Iowa
Kansas State doesn't have the academics for B10 inclusion
West Virginia doesn't have the academics for ACC inclusion (not sure if they are a real university at this point)
Baylor has had gigantic scandals and the other schools are too afraid to drop them. The "University" should probably be shuttered at this point and/or athletics banned.

Candidates for what? The MW or AAC?

As the Iowa State AD said in 2016, "without Texas and Oklahoma, we're the MW".

The teams the Big XII should be afraid to lose are Texas and Oklahoma. No one else wants the rest of the Little Eight.

I could see Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC and Kansas to the ACC. The rest could merge with the American West less Navy to get back to 12 members.

In addition to The Big XII could do:
(1) - Another best of the rest potential invite pageant like they did before...
Free-for-All

(2) - They could cherry pick from the MWC & AAC to get back to 12 members...
Boise State
BYU
(If Big XII can have Baylor with their baggage they can have BYU with its baggage)
SDSU
SMU
Houston
Cincinnati
Memphis

(3) - Football only invites for select candidates if they want to stay at 10 full members...
Boise State (football only)
BYU (football only)
SDSU (football only)
SMU
Houston
Cincinnati
Memphis
I can't see the B12 losing anymore teams unless for some crazy reason the ACC takes West Virginia for team #16. Would the SEC expand to 16 and take B12 teams, or would they be after the ACC? Only way B12 loses teams at all is if any of the B1G, ACC, or SEC expands. Something I'm not entirely sure is even likely at this point.

West Virginia is the only candidate here that could, maybe, go anywhere (ACC). I don't think the ACC is expanding to take WVU as they want Notre Dame and whoever it takes to get Notre Dame (Navy perhaps).

Out where?

The only Big 12 teams that will leave is when the Pac-12 makes an offer to Texas & Oklahoma after 2024.

Now we're talking fantasy. Remember how the song went....."In the year 2525, if man is still alive"

What would be the reason for any of those things to happen, and if so, why right now?

Ah, yes, the illustrious American West Conference. I hadn't considered them as a possibility05-nono
I'm not sure about the Big XII, but the Big 12 is likely standing pat for awhile.

(....in other words...."when pigs fly"....)
If Kansas came as a tag-a-long to Texas maybe, but otherwise the B10 has enough low major football programs at the bottom of their conference, they aren’t about to add another.

That's the very reason why BYU will never be part of the Big 12.. religious school experience has sucked for the Big 12

IF that's the case...how did TCU get in back in 2012?...if a university brings $$$ to the conference and ESPN gives it's blessing...then they'll get an invite...
