For realignment junkies: while calling around on this story, two different industry sources told me that multiple schools in Conference USA looked into splitting off and starting their own league, just like the MWC did from the WAC, to form a more east-coast-ish conference
Just today I was thinking "Gee, 2020 isn't crazy enough, it's missing something..."

Sooo...the people who fought so hard and are still fighting & funding & watching a beautiful training facility & stadium come to fruition, did all that to be in a UAB, La Tech, USM, WKU, MTSU, Charlotte, Marshall, James Madison, Liberty, F_U's arrangement?

I really, really wanna believe that UAB is going to have moved on whenever that thing happens. But, I'd hoped UAB was going to have moved on before another clown show from this conference next year. Or the year after at the latest. Not completely sure it will. Go out and get HCAK to hype us up to play USM, MTSU, F_U's in Bartow. Man that just puts a bitter taste on everything. At least to me...maybe not others.

Just give us the curtain and we can put it between the "home" and "visitor's" sides of Protective.
Just let it play out.
It's just another realignment thread until something actually happens.
I can see the east teams doing their own thing. Texas teams going MWC. Then UAB and USM being left out in the rain hoping AAC opens the door, but us being at the wrong house and the Sunbelt answers.

Gotta think of the number of mouths to feed, though(especially with the way G5 resources may be limited going forward)...

Same thing the docs say when I have a kidney stone every other year. But at least they give me a ‘script to stay knocked out and not feeling pain. This is just pain.

Was looking at AAC scores/standings and we belong in a conf with every single one, individually, of those teams.
As long it's not the "big" 12.03-drunk

Sounds like we can give this dream up

I wouldn’t, and am not, saying that. A few posters on this board with connections have openly said we’ll have moved on when something like this or an arrangement with the Sunbelt happens. Even some posters on the CUSA board assume UAB will have moved up when something like this happens. But realignment is just months and months of pain and positivity...then suddenly everything happens all at once. It can be a tortuous experience for fans.
Give it up? that makes no sense whatsoever.
When you consider the cost of the stadium (for which we only have a nominal capital expenditure ) , the football facility, track, baseball/softball field house and basketball practice facility there has been capital improvements for athletics pushing a quarter of a billion dollars over the last 5 years. We didn’t do that to go to the sunbelt.

Nope. All of that was done because it was needed and long overdue.
It was long overdue and was also necessary for a conference move. Had all what we will have been in place including the foundation we would be in the AAC with our peers.

What facilities UAB built for its football program were the first in almost 30 years of its existence. It matched what our competitors already had in place and did not leap ahead of any of them. When I asked what we needed to build next for football, all I got was blank expressions. Now that UAB has "put on its Big Boy pants", we can look for ways to grow in conference standing. My preference would be a conference of major urban universities in places like Houston, Memphis, Charlotte, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Atlanta and such. Those are the schools most likely to grow the most in this period of the 21st century.

That’s literally the AAC with Charlotte, the F_Us, and Georgia State added but without Tulsa and Cincinnati
