Wow.
Thanks for posting about this.
I somehow didn't know about this :(
Some great stuff in this thread; the ESPN video and story is well done. The Marshall plane crash a couple of weeks later put this story on the back burner. It’s always been a difficult time of the year for me. Simply a senseless tragedy.

Three generations later, the secrets of Wichita State's devastating plane crash are still unfolding

I spent two summers working as a Chaplain Intern at Wesley Medical Center and I had grown up in Colorado... I knew the story, but I hadn't put it all together until I lived in Wichita.

Ironically, then I also lived down near Huntington, WV. I always thought that each school should have an appreciation of what the other went through, but most of the folks in WV were completely unaware of the Wichita State tragedy. I guess that's not overly surprising seeing as how Wichita and Huntington are in very different parts of the world, but if anyone can understand the pain and hope of WSU's "second season," it'd be the "Young Thundering Herd."

May this be a sober but hopeful anniversary! Go Shox! (Just this once)
Terrible tragedy. I hope they start their program again. In memory of that day if nothing else. Your school deserves that. Go Shockers!

Man, that was intense. Terrible and beautiful at the same time. Made my eyes sweat.

I had no idea.

The program really never recovered from that event and it seemed like after football was dropped, the coverage and rememberence of the event was kind of swept under the rug. That changed a few Presidents ago and the survivors old teammates were brought back into the fold and made a priority. I too hope we can bring back football but at this point the only way it happens is if the AAC makes it a requirement or if it's needed in a post break NCAA break away world to maintain our current status. However our current Prez is a gutless rube and will do whatever the KU packed regents tells him to do. The last Prez who had an untimely death, was the man for the job and would drop an occasional football teaser.
Maybe WSU should reinstate football to honor that tragedy.
