My hope is more east coast to limit cost, but would do BYU and the previously scheduled home game with New Mexico State.

How about these 8 games.

Code:
UConn
ODU
Army
East Carolina
George State
Liberty
BYU
New Mexico State

3 of those programs still aren't playing and have not signalled any willingness to do so.
Revised the post with dates, took out ODU and add Charlotte and as UCF fan, ArmoredUpKnight says, they have an opening as well.

Has there been any word about NMST and UCONN trying to play?
We had discussion with UConn playing in the Spring, will probably hear tonight.
Not sure about NMSU, but playing is a win. Playing 6 games would be great and seems very possible.

NMSU had conversations to play both UCONN and UMASS in the spring. This coming from our AD in his weekly ask the AD podcast.
Give Houston a call? They keep losing opponents due to Covid...
Given the Covid-19 revenue constraints as playing with no fans, a high dollar trip to Houston would not be my guess.
Perhaps a buy game is possible.
Could UMass play an SEC opponent who didn't make the SEC championship game? It could be an early kick on the SEC Network, and then CBS could have their game late afternoon.

Which states still have travel restrictions coming into Mass??? Whoever doesn’t, will be who UMASS will be able to schedule.

Unfortunately the Big Ten and SEC are at this point conference only, the Pac 12, MWC, and MAC are still out (and I doubt any of the three will give UMass a game at this point, the MAC is the only one geographically feasible), and the ACC won't have that many open dates late in the season available. I kind of feel at this point what's really the point for UMass to play?

If that happened, FSU, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Louisville ought to be royally ticked off. The SEC was hard and fast not to play non conference opponents, not even in state rivals. Suddenly allowing an SEC team to play UMass? Man...
I wonder if App State would be agreeable to host UMass on December 5 as a make up for the previously canceled home game this year.
From last night, yes Michael_in_Raleigh, there is a priority to honor anyone on the schedule and UMass is following that along with opponent conference guidelines, state, local and institutional. Those that can not be reschedule this year would most likely be rescheduled in 2025 or beyond as the schedule is full for the next few years.

Possible Schedule:
Oct 17 Open or UConn if they play
Oct 24 Open or New Mexico State if they play
Oct 31 Army
Nov 7 Open
Nov 14 BYU or Charlotte
Nov 21 Open
Nov 28 Liberty
Dec 05 App State

Haven't heard anything yet from Liberty Athletics about whether we are playing that game again or not.

I wouldn't be opposed to playing y'all again, but I know that would replace our bye week between NC State & Coastal Carolina, so I'm curious if we'd still go for it or are even given a choice since it was originally scheduled before COVID made y'all temporarily cancel the season.
All I know is UMass should go back to that helmet in the article full time. That is one of the iconic logos in college sports, which is also associated with great success (mainly basketball, but maybe their football title). Why they changed it I’ll never understand. It’s like once they changed their logo, their success dropped and they fell off the map.

That might be bad luck!04-cheers

I would love playing y'all on the 12th. Would be best for y'all's schedule & concerns, & it would allow us to keep that second bye week

As of right now MTSU would have to quarantine for two weeks according to the Massachusetts’ travel order.
UNC is looking for an opponent. Offering $600k as a guaranty. Just sayin.

Only if you have not had a Covid test in the past 72 hours.
So test and play.
