So Jeff Scott ranked us #23 in his poll. Cool. We don't deserve it but hey take it. Baby steps.

Boise also got votes here, too. (checks schedule - they're really not playing, right?)

If we had a poll after week one, the AAC would probably have 5 ranked teams now with 2 in the top 10... This is why there were no polls until AQ teams played.

UCF #13
Cincinnati #14
Memphis #15
SMU
USF

With Houston and Tulane RV

Well, Texas Tech got 11 votes for beating an FCS team (HBU) by two points. They have been playing football for 7 years and have never had even close to a winning record.

Oh, I am talking about HBU in case you were confused which would be understandable.
Baylor is top 25 right now - first year HC who has never been a HC before, Brewer is somewhat questionable (in my mind) and tons of new starters and they're top 25.

Houston has a chance to make a play for that title when the play the bears this coming weekend. Good luck to the 'cougs.
The Athletic's rankings of all 76 FBS teams playing:

Any thoughts about whether these kinds of rankings will have any beneficial effects for the conference?

The most striking (and the one unprecedented) thing, thus far, is that there are three AAC teams in the top #15. This is particularly striking because it usually takes a few weeks before we see more than two or three non-P5 teams ranked in the top 25.

It's also interesting because the number of non-P5 top 25 rankings is similar to the number of non-P5 top 25 teams at the end of last season.

.

Of course, these rankings might be about 10 ranking notches (#23, #24, #25) lower than this if every conference were playing. However, even if that were the case, it would still be remarkably early to have three AAC teams in the top 25.

If the conference somehow manages to get a playoff spot out of this, hell yes - especially if it's any school other than UCF.

Also, this gives us a chance to have more teams in the top 25 next year, allowing the conference to have a longer staying power in the national conversation.

So yeah, the door is wide open for us, we just have to take advantage.

Kinda an abuse of the system. Then again, I'm pretty confident that every one of those voters is biased toward their own team and conference and do the exact same thing. Carry on then...04-cheers

It’s a popular rumor that O’Leary back in the day gave his ballot to his grad assistants to fill out.

Realistically, it’s not possible for the coaches to watch all the games to even have a pulse on anything outside of the conference or scheduled opponents.
Football is actually more interesting without the SEC, Big 10, and PAC 12 playing. These same programs aren't being piped in via ESPN, Radio, Fox Sports, etc. every chance they get just to hype up television ratings. You get televised games like Louisiana beating down Iowa State, Arkansas State over Kansas State, Coastal over Kansas, App v. Marshall on CBS at 3:30, Arkansas State and Memphis, etc.

Games with real intrigue for a "real fan" (I will gate keep here) of College Football. Rooting for a flagship program is easy enough for anyone to do and takes very little effort.

Yeah we got 6 votes in AP poll also, so some idiot sportswriters gave us votes. LOL.

I'm fine with our coaches giving our teams votes. You don't think the SEC coaches aren't stacking their ballots with loads and loads of SEC teams?

Pretty sure Scott also voted UCF, Memphis, and Cincinnati a lot higher in the polls also.
If current top 25 AAC teams don't lose and SMU or Tulane win, we can have FOUR teams in top 25. Also if UH beats Baylor they will beat a top 25 team which always helps your programs bragging rights.

Make it so.
It’s going to be weird if the B1G returns to play in October and they get inserted back into the Top25.

Follow the money.

Fans versus records.
The polls this week have a legit chance to set a record for the most number of ranked teams who won and dropped out of the poll.
