FWIW I didn't gut your point so much as your methodology. Your point may very well be valid. But I think it's important for the folks who are nearer the middle like you and I to call out the bull**** arguments (even when we make them ourselves).
I think 'politically acceptable' is subjective...would what the admin deems acceptable here at ODU (per your theory, pro_BLM, or gay rights, etc) be seen the same way by folks in the same positions at Liberty? And if not, how does that affect your larger point...that only the 'woke' squash dissenting viewpoint?
Also FWIW, I think both the far-left and the far-right try and out-do each other WRT shouting down what's deemed not PC in their respective circles. My wife reads the comments to EVERYTHING...which is how she fell down a rabbit hole and how I now know so much about QAnon and we're probably on a watch list, but that's another story...but I can't. I can't bear the straight-up falsehoods by either side. I can't bear the constant combativeness. So I try and stay out of the comments pretty much everywhere.

You've noted an important distinction - - one which I missed in the underlying thread (and almost certainly will again in future threads).
I suppose all of our viewpoints are going to be somewhat driven by our own specific circumstances. My assumptions are based on living in a very liberal neighborhood, in which I am certain that conservative viewpoints exist but are kept extremely well hidden.
In the 2016 presidential election, 36 percent of voting precinct (the Virginia Zoo) cast their votes for Trump. (Not that it at all matters, but my own vote was cast for the pothead libertarian Johnson.) Yet in my neighborhood (Riverview) there were countless Clinton yard signs but exactly ONE Trump sign on display on the day of the election - - and the one brave sole who posted that sign took it down the very next day. Why? Because, at least in this liberal section of Norfolk, progressives are noticeably nastier than conservatives. A Trump bumper sticker is an invitation to having your car keyed.
Is the situation reversed in more conservative areas? Maybe. But that is not what I see, and that assumption bleeds over to my having probably overstated a hypothesis that ODU would squelch an anti-BLM opinion. I still believe that to be the case. But I am not going to try to prove it, because I know that I cannot.

I think it definitely goes both ways. I choose not to mix work and politics, but there is a small group of conservatives that I work with that are very vocal and one of them continues to bombard his coworkers with right wing social propaganda on a regular basis. To his credit, he does not use official work channels. But it feels very oppressive, especially because I choose not to respond at all due to my belief that I should refrain from work-related political discussions.
