Quote:The ACC's plan–which was voted on unanimously by the conference's coaches, per Goodman–would include more than 350 teams in the 2021 NCAA tournament. The week of conference tournaments would serve as the first week of the NCAA Tournament, with the field trimmed to 64 or 68 teams in the following week. The plan for selecting and seeding at-large bids has not been announced.
That would certainly keep Joe Lunardi busy over the coming months.
Here’s your chance, ECU!

Watch them play the backups and still win by 40.
We'll hang a banner.

Is that not just making the conference tournaments into the NCAA tournament? So that means the ACC only gets ONE team in right?

I know right. Just the thought of this is exciting. Make some noise.

it is basically is but with 1 noticable difference
it means instead of the acc playing acc teams for 1 auto..all the acc team will be playing low mid-major

it seems inclusive but when you get to the regular 64/68 team bracket, youd notice all te regular 16-11 seeds had already been eliminated in earlier rounds. it would be a more high major top 64 teams

Could be, but I hope they would structure it such that the smaller conferences are still playing EACH OTHER for those 13-16 seeds and the bubbles teams from the high majors are fighting EACH OTHER for those 7-12 seeds.

And SOME of you people on here said we'd never make it back to the tournament. Hah!

This might help recruiting. Hey, you come to East Carolina, we’ll guarantee a trip to the Big Dance.
Stupid idea, Maybe go to 128 for 1 year, and give each conf a season and tournie spot. So even the weakest get 2 bids while there will be plenty extra's for the rest to divide up.

If NCAA went to 128, they should do away with NIT for the year.

I like this idea better. No one can rightfully complain about being left out if they let both regular-season and conference tournament champions in.
Another variation of goodknightfl's idea that could be fun is a 96-team tournament where all regular-season and conference tournament winning teams get in, but the 32 tournament champs get a bye. Call the first round the play-in round and have them at the regional sites, playing on Tuesday/Wednesday like they do the first four now or whatever they call it.

Memphis, Cincy, Wichita, Tulsa, Houston, etc. All have free reign to talk smack about ecu hoops, USF and Tulane not so much.

Oh great! We’re getting trophies too! This is getting better all the time. I thought it was just going to be the Round of 128 Banner.04-rock

Why is anybody ever left out, anyway? Every year, you can play your way through your conference tourney right to the NCAAs, and theoretically to a natty, even if you went winless in the regular season.
