Who else on the long list?

Racheem Boothe announced on twitter he's also sitting out this season as well grad transferring
Per Hopson, Jaylond Adams has opted out on this season too
When they say "grad transferring", I take that to mean they are going to another school with one year of football eligibility. I'm curious as to what schools they are transferring to. I can't imagine them going to another Group of 5 school, as that would hardly get them any recognition unless it was Boise State. And with only 1 year of eligibility, are there any Power 5 schools that would seriously want them- unless they're really bad teams that are desperate for an infusion of talent?

Most grad transfers are players from Power 5 conferences that didn't see the playing time they hoped for, and come to a place like USM hoping to have one big season and get noticed.
Steven Anderson also grad transferring.

It’d be one thing if these guys were sitting out the season cuz of Covid, but these guys are leaving and they’re some of the better players we have. What’s going on with the program?
Jaques Turner, Steven Anderson, Jaylond Adams, Racheem Boothe, Travensky Moseley, Jaden Johnson...just to name a few. All gone.

What the f*ck is Hopson doing to the program? Are they transferring because they aren't good enough? Then what does that say about Hopson's recruiting? Are they transferring because of something else? What does that say about Hopson?

What a joke.

Meanwhile, our replacement game for Tenn-Tech is North Alabama...while our peers La Tech are scheduling Baylor. North Alabama is just another team to pad the schedule. McClain needs to fire Hop's ass if we don't win the West this year, period.
It would be nice to know where these players are going and more importantly why they are leaving. Covid? but if that was the case wouldn't they have gone sooner? I'm not sure what's up.
Did the NCAA grant an extra year of eligibility for EVERY player or something. Because you are given 5 consecutive years to play four. Turner redshirted his first year and played three. If he sits out this year, he is done.
WTF? Those are pretty much the best players on the roster and all leaving. Pathetic.
I've been trying to make sense of this and have a theory. I hope someone will debunk it. Is the NCAA essentially forcing all the players to participate in the 2020 season if their conference is going to play? And perhaps the only option a player has if he doesn't want to play is to file for a transfer to another program? In other words if Turner, Adams, Booth, etc. said they didn't want to play this season due to Covid, but wanted to remain at Southern Miss and play in 2021, the NCAA would say "NO", you must play this season or your eligibility is over. BUT...if you want to transfer, that's allowed.
No, any player can opt out and receive an extra year of eligibility. These are players trying to get out of the program.

yes that's how i see it as well. Like rats leaving a sinking ship. They see an opportunity to get out without a lot of finger pointing and they are jumping on it.

Since when did this become a thing? So NOW a player gets 6 years to play 4?
I’ve been saying all off-season that the players were going to bail on Hopson after the first couple losses. Looks like they’re not even waiting that long.

Remember, Turner was the one who on Twitter thanked the fans in attendance and apologized for the bowl performance, then put a “like” on a reply that trashed the coaches.

You're right. Apparently it was just passed by the NCAA, but was known as a done deal for weeks now. No player who sits out due to Covid concerns will lose their eligibility at the school where they played. So the players are transferring because they want to leave the program. I found the link below that shows all the players that have opted out across the country. Look at C-USA. The vast majority of conference members don't have anyone who has opted out. Then a whole slew of them opting out while transferring when you look at Southern Miss.

That's phorseshit. I can understand letting them sit out a year but no way should they get to transfer to spend their last year somewhere else. You should get your extra year at the school you were at only.
