$100 per test. Each student athlete, coach, and support staff member would be required to test each week throughout the fall. That comes to a LOT of money that the smaller conference teams just don't have. Some of the teams in the bigger conferences might struggle with the cost alone. If you do play the season and someone is diagnosed, the entire team has to be quarantined - forfeiting games. Again, substantial $$ lost.

This is a financial decision as much as it is a medical one.
In the name of equality, seize the Ivy League endowments ($100 billion plus) and redistribute them to the underprivileged colleges. There, testing problem solved and virtue signal level Godzilla achieved.

P5 give to the G5 & lower levels as well. It's not fair the G5 & lower levels does't bathe in money like they do

The revenue sharing in college athletics is vastly unfair.
Anyone ready to put together a non-sanctioned tailgate for this fall (early and warm) with a big screen tv and replays of the 2016 MAC championship and Cotton Bowl? Id be there... cold beers, BBQ and social distancing... maybe some large speakers with crowd noise...

Anyone?
Notre Dame is pretty proud of themselves for their Corona protocols. Testing 120 players and staff 2 x per week, with results the following day. Tests at minimum of $75 each. The entire team and staff was housed in a hotel for 2 weeks for quarantine, fed three meals per day. How many other teams in FBS have that kind of cash? 6? 8?

No wonder they couldn't afford to pay WMU for the game they would have cancelled.

They didn't cancel the game, we (MAC) did.

I want to rewatch the Toledo game before the Mac championship game as well.
Anyone else foresee the MAC being the only ones not playing football in 2020???

MAC gonna look like sissies when this all shakes out.
Possible the PAC & MW sit out too. (Think California, Washington, Oregon) Barber shops aren't even open there yet!

Last time I heard the California State system wasn't having in-person classes. How would they run football?

Nope, PAC just announced they partnered with a rapid testing company, they’ll be back to football soon. This was political and these institutions are now seeing it backfire. The Detroit school system was even starting to turn on Whitmer.
You know, it occurred to me today that I’ve universally disagreed with suggestions in here that we transition to the FCS level. I still emotionally don’t like it, as well as the idea that the G5 go their own way. However, if my whining comes true, it’s going to be much harder to disagree with you FCS folks.

They are talking about coordinating their start with the Big 10 including a limited Bowl schedule.
Colgate game supposed to be tonight. Sad!

y you say that?
Seeing reports the entire BIG10 wants to play except UM’s President. Seeing some ugly rumors about his reasoning. It looks more and more like the cheese will stand alone.

I hope an entrepreneurial sports journalist (like Seth Berry who has been very vocal about return to play) will FOIA the documents used by the MAC to cancel. I’d like to see what advice they were given, and by whom. I’d like to particularly see if the coronavirus was just a face-saving excuse to cover the financial problem. I understand if this was a money decision, but if they amped up the fear just to save face, people should be held accountable.

If Seth or one of you is reading this and worried about FOIA costs, PM me...
I actually worry more about that state of our fine institution....or once fine institution. It seems enrollment is plummeting (yes, I know it is happening at all schools) but just seems we have a larger chunk of competition to contend with on our side of the state.

Western has never marketed itself very well. So much to give. In my day you got the feeling K-zoo hated the university and treated it more as a stain in the area...not sure where they are at today?

It’s rough to see, and even harder to believe that our sports programs could be relegated soon.
Given the high school enrollment decline I think we have managed the situation. Michigan and MSU have increased the most and GVSU and Oakland have increased by 2% over the last 10 years. CMU is down by 31% and EMU 24%, and WMU 14%. No loss is good news and the Covid may cause further issues, but whatever we have done there is positives in the data. When students have a choice they tend to pick MSU over WMU (per Mlive).
I love WMU. I wish more people would see how great it is. It's not perfect but it's ours. You can't buy the fandom at Wal-Mart. You have to be there in Read Fieldhouse and Waldo Stadium to feel those heartbreaks. There's like 20 of us that all argue about the best path forward for the teams but that makes it special. Sure we don't agree on everything but we all love WMU.

I hope WMU can navigate this situation and continue to be a wonderful place that we all know it to be!
At Cincinnati supposed to have been last night
