Student rec and facilities now under athletics. Frazier mentions the band and Silverettes being under his dept. as of last year, but says nothing about cheerleaders, although he mentions clubs. Includes Esports. Management consolidations, cost savings, program changes and any reorganization not yet detailed. Also wonder how much revenue shifts to athletics.

(from above) "In keeping with an emerging trend in higher education, management of the club and intramural sports programs and oversight of the NIU Recreation Center, the Outdoor Recreation Sports Complex and the office of Outdoor Adventures will move under the direction of Intercollegiate Athletics. Wellness initiatives currently in RecWell will remain within Student Affairs. These changes became effective on July 1, 2020."

With all intercollegiate athletics on hiatus, might as well keep the athletic staff busy organizing intramurals and other activities!
Can you imagine the poor freshman trying to talk with Frazier?

Wonder if appointments will be prioritized by donation level.

(Sorry, I'm just in a snarky mood.)

Yes, I agree. I think appointments will be prioritized based on a points system. Points for students would be awarded for the following:

- How much money your parents donated over the last 5 years.

- How many season tickets do your parents have and how long have they had it.

- Number of games you attended in the past 2 years (staying the entire game, even in rain and cold). If you are a freshman, too bad - you go to the end of the line for this category.

- How many hot dogs have you purchased at each game you attended.

- How many times have you pissed in the urinal trough while singing the Huskie Fight Song.

- How much do you plan on donating after you graduate and how many season tickets will you purchase.

- Would you consider an amorous relationship with the PigDog in the north end zone.

- Have you ever faced west towards Huskie Stadium and saluted STF while on the blower with STF professing your love and admiration for him.

If all that applies is the last item, you are still a winner in the eyes of STF and will move to the lead of the line.
Once again, NIU announced a major change after the fact, and with no details about the shift of personnel and financial/budget resources. I wonder how this will affect student athletic and (now) activity program fees, use of rec facilities by non-student-athletes, clubs and esports (a new revenue stream?).

And where does this come from: "In keeping with an emerging trend in higher education, ..." to explain the change? Seems a coverall phrase to quickly explain (and dismiss) questions about why rec was moved out of Student Affairs. Is athletics becoming "too big to fail?" Or explain anything?

On another matter, I also noticed that "cheerleading," including the volunteer coach, is back in the menu listing on the official athletic website under "Inside Athletics."

Must be my recurring skepticism about any moves made by the a.dept.
This might be a good move once many universities go broke, then you can have intramural sports teams.
