It seems likely that the ACC's primary purpose for including a single OOC game for each member was to maintain the four in state rivalry games with the SEC, particularly because 3 of them were scheduled to be home games that would be part of the ACC TV package. With the SEC having balked, would it make sense now to simply drop OOC games from the plan?

Essentially, all of the OOC games will need to be against G5 opponents. Of these, only UCF at GT appears to be a particularly compelling matchup. A few games may even end up being against FCS opponents. The primary TV value of most of these games would therefore be as fill for the ACCN and RSN packages.

On the other hand, an additional bye week would reduce the risk of losing a valuable conference game due to a COVID outbreak. The other conferences may have this right.
Mind your own damn business. 04-cheers

Seriously, why should we do that? Remember some of our schools may be under some political duress to provide an avenue for a non P-5 to play what to them is an interesting game.

I know we are getting pressure now. If we are, so is UNC, UVa, Duke, WF, and VT. While Duke and WF are private, they are not immune from certain State of NC expectations since the State of NC controls the Certificate of Need for Baptist and Duke Hospital.

That type of interference is not considered interference by those who see it as a form of economic development.
Regardless of what we think, Syracuse AD said those OOC games will not be cancelled.
Uhhh ... NO.
I voted yes just so we can skip Navy for one year. Brutal game on our knees.

Can I assume the pressure in NC is for these schools to play ECU, App. St. and Charlotte, and in VA to play ODU and possibly James Madison?

Maybe my view is colored by my lack of interest in playing Liberty. If we were to replace them with Army, UConn or Buffalo, I would definitely have greater interest.

I love playing Army. And they've been pretty good lately. That would be an excellent game to have.
No...Hell no
I’m still mad we don’t get to play 12 games.
Several ACC teams will be only garnering 4 conference wins. They'll need the extra game to have a great chance at 5-6. If bowl games are played they then have a good chance at a 6-6 finish.

The season is going to have lots of teams at 4-7 to 7-4. Some need that (in theory) easy win.

ASU, Western Carolina, Charlotte, Gardner Webb, Elon, Campbell, and ECU all have political patrons. Liberty, W&M, ODU, and Richmond have more than you might expect in NC. Army and Navy have more connections than meet the eye. Politically you can sell bringing in Army or Navy in NC or Va, as well as a in state school or past member of the SoCon or Colonial who is playing ball this year.
Do you think the ACC decided on 1 non conference game for the purposes of keeping FSU-UF, GaT-UGa, Clem-SC, Lville, UK ... or irrelevant games vs, Appalachian State? If the SEC had decided to cancel those games, do you think the ACC would have kept 1 non conference game so Virginia could play Old Dominion?

They did it for the money.

They did it to poke the B10 in the eye.

If the SEC went along mores the better. 04-cheers

Yes ... and Yes.

And I would hope that the ACC had balls enough of their own to make their OWN decision, regardless of what any other conference decided. Screw the SEC. Screw the Big Ten.

The ACC needs to think and act for itself. One more football game is a good thing. Not a bad thing. 01-wingedeagle

Another way to look at this: the ACC is playing the maximum number of games possible while avoiding the two divisions rule.
It's easy for me to answer this question because I don't have a single team I root for (or against). Personally, I love seeing 10 conference games, and I would love it even more if the 11th game were also a conference game. But I can certainly see the logic behind having a single warmup game at home to start the season to get the kinks out and give every school six home games.
Some of you better be prepared to be mad...look at what going on with the MLB and now NFL with players opting out...doubtful you will finish a college season if the Professionals can’t get it together...and the nation as a whole.

Peace...
