Jack Dorsey and his minions are working overtime to try to shut this one down.

Downloaded.

Trump Jr. Put it out on his Parler Account.
Twitter is removing it because Linkin Park is complaining that no one received permission to use their music.

Personally Linkin Park should be glad somebody remembers who they are since Chester took his own life.

Linkin Park likely doesnt own the copyright to it.

Trump doesnt have to get permission from the person who wrote the song, he simply needs an agreement to use the song and to pay a royalty to the entity that does own the copyright. Neil Young has been bitching for 5 years about Trump playing Rocking in a Free World, but there aint a damned thing Neil can do. Neil, like most musicians, do not wn the copyrights of their own music. THey signed them away with the record deal.
Social Media has to pull out all the stops now. If Trump wins in Nov he's going to f them over.

Cool video, well done on their part. Amazing song - probably one of the 2 or 3 best songs since 2000 IMO.

The song is out there for public consumption so Linkin Park can't pick and choose who gets to use it. But Trump better damn well know that he doesn't get to play the song for free. If you want to use the song, you're going to have to pay the hefty rights to use it. All his lawyers probably know it's not even worth it to go after the copyright lawyers.

The cost is likely in the 4 figures.... 5 at the most... and it would be low 5's. It's not really that much. It's more than you or I would want to spend of course.

There are some limited cases where songs can be banned for specific purposes, and it usually involves association with 'hate groups' or similar.
Well done.
Too good not to bump

Intellectual property and copyrights are a very under appreciated aspect of the law. I fully support the right of creators — including Linkin Park — to receive full value for the use of their material, and I hope that happened in this case. If it didn’t, there is a valid complaint. If it did, there isn’t.
I agree but that's between Trump and Linkin Park and has nothing to do with Twitter.
I think i read somewhere (but didn't save the link) that Trump's campaign paid for the rights to air it. I know for sure they bought air rights to the Neil Young song.

Nobody at any meaningful level of media uses music without knowing they need to pay for the rights to do so. I understand lots of people don't, but the professionals within any campaign staff would know. One can add the word 'virtually' to my comment if they choose. I think it's statistically close to zero.

The fact that it was Linkn Park who sent the cease and desist order, and not some media conglomerate, almost certainly means that they paid for the rights for that song. The bands and musicians themselves almost never own the rights to their own songs.

Neil Young has bitched for 5 years that Trump doesnt have HIS permission to use HIS song. But Trump doesnt need it. Trump paid for the rights to use his song from the entity that owns the media rights.

So while singers and bands can scream and whine, they have no standing unless they actually own the media rights themselves, and they almost never do.
The CnD was requested by Machine Shop Entertainment which is LP's business and management company so it was probably a legit DMCA take down. Two odd things though is that is a cover of the original which is really good and a cool music video, so it's not even their original music. Second, what a strange song to use for a presidential campaign. "I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter" Weird tone imo

Felt like an ad for a 2020 end of times/thriller movie. Not my cup of tea but can see how the base will love it.
Good ad.

And that’s what you focus on?

That’s why the left continues to struggle, they just don’t focus on the right stuff.

Their management company probably doesn't own the songs either... since all that really is is the legal entity under which the 'owners' of LP operate... you don't operate under your own name... Their distributor Warner likely does as part of the distribution agreement. LP doesn't want to be associated with Trump and/or they don't want their fans to think they're taking a side... so they've (through their business) asked them to stop using it.

My son is Ham Bone Jr.... he operates under Hambone Inc.... his music is distributed by Capitol. They sue people for infringement/improper use... but if he wanted to not be associated with a group, he could file for an injunction.. But if they paid the fee to Capitol, its more of a courtesy and/or a statement of 'no support' or distancing.
