Ever see the movie The Untouchables? Great flick. Costner. De Niro. Connery. Now Big Fick joins The Untouchables. I like the way that sounds. CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd gives his annual rankings for every college coach. The hot seat ranges from 0 [zero] Untouchable to 5 Win or be Fired. Big Fick joins 23 other "untouchable" coaches that include Sabes, Dabo, Monken, Smart, Orgeron, Niumatalolo, Mack Brown, Fitzgerald, B Kelly, R Day, Patterson, et al. FWIW, Fick was ranked 1 Safe and Secure last season. The top coaches ranked on the hot seat for this season...

Clay Helton, USC
Chip Kelly, UCLA
Scott Frost, Nebraska
Dana Dimel, UTEP
Randy Edsall, UConn
Derek Mason, Vanderbilt
Will Muschamp, South Carolina
Tom Herman, Texas
Kevin Sumlin, Arizona
Philip Montgomery, Tulsa
Manny Diaz, Miami, FL

Clay Helton, USC - Agree
Chip Kelly, UCLA - Agree
Scott Frost, Nebraska - He could be winning big and living in central Florida; will coaches ever learn?
Dana Dimel, UTEP
Randy Edsall, UConn - Doubt it given their challenging situation
Derek Mason, Vanderbilt
Will Muschamp, South Carolina
Tom Herman, Texas - I thought he was going to win big at UT, still could happen.
Kevin Sumlin, Arizona
Philip Montgomery, Tulsa - I don't know that Tulsa has the money to fire someone.
Manny Diaz, Miami, FL

Barring a 0-1 win seasons, Edsall is going to be given some leeway in Storrs given the conference move. Their schedule includes a couple FCS and lowly FBS schools, so they should get 3-4 fairly easily. Nobody is going to fault him for the P5 losses.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Frost. I know we as UC fans grow tired of the media always producing “They’re Back Baby!” articles for name-brand schools, but that is a double-whammy as it leads to unrealistic expectations from the boosters and fans of that school. If the Huskers win 6-7 games this year that is a jump from where they have been, but to the fans they are going to harken back to the hype train produced in the off-season and see 6-7 wins as a failure.
UConn can't fire Edsall. They may not get anyone else to take the job.
I'm not so sure Edsall will win more than one game this season. Have you seen the transfer portal for UConn? There's 21 guys listed. Football morale is down big time in Storrs. Just a put a gun to their collective heads. I believe Edsall will be fired at some point soon. He's won 6 of 30 games over the past three seasons. 6 of 30! I don't know what he gets paid but hire an FCS level coach and save the program some dough.

I don't know how you get FBS quality recruits to go to UConn now. When you factor in the weather, how bad the programs has been, and the fact they have nothing to play for, it's the least attractive program to commit to in FBS. If I'm an athlete with 2 FBS offers and one of them is UConn, I'm going to the other school. And if UConn is my only FBS offer, I might just go FCS.

While not elite, the solid education Uconn provides is literally the only single thing that is semi enticing over say a Charlotte 49ers or Coastal Carolina

That's a good point. But if I was an academically minded recruit, I'd go Ivy League over UConn (assuming I'm offered by an Ivy).

Ivy League doesn't offer athletic scholarships. It's $250k+ for a 4 year degree. If I wasn't a good enough football player for Duke/Northwestern/Stanford/Vanderbilt, I'd love to play for UConn. Or maybe Tulane or Rice, depending on what I wanted to major in.
What % of football players truly care about academics? Is it 50% or 20%?

I am sure at elite schools in is close to 100% but at the UC's, IU's, OSU's what is it?
Scott Frost (NEB) went from 0 to 5. LOL
Life is rough in the B1G.
Untouchable:

The Scott Frost thing is intetesting. If Fick would have bolted for MSU would he have ended up like Frost or... I am trying to think of a guy who went from an AAC school to a more traditional football power and had success... Dantonio? Kelly? Wait no those guys were in the Big East. Butch Jones? Willie Taggert? Charlie Strong? Justin Fuente? Al Golden?

Has anyone ever done it? Lol
Is it the lakes they go off to swim in or are they fish who can only succeed in something pond-ier?
