Happy 80th birthday to Richard Starkey (aka Ringo Starr)!!!!
Happy 80th Sir Richard! Fact, he's still married to Barbara Bach [72] nearly 40 years. Good for them!

Barbara Bach’s sister is married to Joe Walsh. That means that Ringo and Joe are relatives.

Question for some of you guys, I'm having a debate with a friend now:

If the Beatles released their discography today, in the same order, and no one knew who they were, how many #1 songs do you think they could land?

Its an impossible question to answer as not only did the Beatles lay the foundation for the modern LP, but also the fact music is consumed so differently that it is a forgone conclusion they would not land as many number 1's.

Music has been completely decentralized and the the "Billboard Chart" has been basically irrelevant for about a decade. 2006-2008 is really the tipping point of when the industry changed. I could go into a far longer discussion, but to answer your question simply. The Beatles would not compete in today's market, especially if they released their discography in order. Please Please Me might see some interest as a nostalgia sounding act but Beatles for Sale would lose the general public...Unless we are going off Capitol releases?

Personally I prefer the Capitol releases, but that might just be the American in me.
I tend to think the Beatles talent would surpass the current trends in the music industry. That is, I think they'd redfine the landscape all over again. Even if not, they had enough songs with that mixture of catchy pop lyrics and true substance that I think they could still dominate the airwaves. Most Paul songs would do better on the radio whereas John would dominate the indie scene.

Off the top of my head, I think the following would all be Billboard top 10 hits at least, perhaps #1s:

1. Here comes the sun
2. Let it Be
3. Hey Jude
4. Hello Goodbye
5. Come Together
6. Yellow Submarine
7. With a Little Help
8. Revolution
9. Twist and Shout
10. All you need is Love

Little known trivia:

The Capitol pressings for U.S. distribution had a layer of reverb added that the UK pressings didn’t have. It was done to make the records more palatable to those in the U.S. Capitol used a traditional spring type reverb for the effect
