So with UA's stock price falling and putting them in a bad place financially, which lead to them terminating the contract of UCLA and trying to do the same to Cal. Not to mention they had to give up the MLB contract they won allowing for Nike to swoop in and take over for the upcoming season. What does ODU do? the Current UA contract ends on July 31st so it will be interesting to see if ODU has a new uniform provider sooner rather than later. It wont be this season but it will be interesting what the terms of the new contract will be. If we do get a new provider I hope they keep a consistent look across the board. ODU with the UA is the most cohesive ODU has looked with all programs wearing ODU and using the same font on the uniforms. The things that could be improved is using the light "Hudson" blue across all sports and if football insist on having a black uniform we should find a way to include the school colors more. What is everyone's thoughts on what ODU should in regards to a uniform provider and how we can improve the ODU brand across all sports
Our deal w/UA is not lucrative by any stretch. I would not be concerned about their recent economic issues impacting their deal w/us. We are a solid deal for them.
If UA is struggling financially, what motivation do they have to sign another contract with ODU (or any other school whose contract is up July 31)?

Marketing to sell their product?

I don’t buy UA and ODU wearing it wouldn’t make me buy it either. I can go to the bookstore and get nice non UA ODU gear.

I guess we will find out if they extend the contract on August 1
My concern is with UA's faltering image. Their sales are tanking, they've conceded an important market (athleisure) to Nike and Adidas, and apparently the athletes aren't happy with the product. Couple that with what will no doubt be an ugly divorce with UCLA, and the prospect of more like it, and I'm thinking maybe ODU looks elsewhere.

I think this is likely the case. I would not be shocked to see a return to Nike. If that does happen I hope it is an all sports deal so we don’t have the patchwork look across athletics we did previously. It really will be a shame if UA doesn’t work out. I really like their stuff.
Well, unless UA cancels the deal, we aren't changing any time soon.

It's already been renewed through 2025;

I was never a fan of the black uniforms. I'm hoping they were Bobby's idea, and they are a now no more than a fading memory.

FWIW, the players loved them.

Really? I remember when it was announced it being touted as way, way better than what Nike was doing for us.

Edit: Apparently UA paid us nearly $400k per year while Nike only gave out $61k. Thats a huge difference, and sadly $400,000 is not chump change to ODU like it is many schools.

I agree if we do end up with a new uni provider i hope it is across all sports. I also wish that ODU could refine our brand some more so we have a common theme across all sports and everything is connected so when you see a pattern you can go that's ODU.

Ahh good to know, it will be interesting to see where we go from here.

I agree, but it helps with recruits as they like it and get to use the fire emoji when they post about it. But BFBS is a fad that can go away.
I have not cared for the football uniforms since we went with UA. I thought they would change it up after the first year, but didn't happen. Doubt we get any new designs this year with COVID, etc.

I was really hoping for more risks with our uniforms. That didn’t happen. And while they didnt change much from the first year, they did change. We started with the auburn stripes on the jerseys and they’re gone. Pretty plain uniform kit now. I would imagine we are due new ones with the contract restarting. But Ricky, staff and the equipment manager could like this look and keep it.
If they got rid of the white helmet with the reverse image “shield” it would improve things at least 50% for no cost at all.

Agree, not a fan of the shield helmet (especially on white) and the shield is all they wore last year.
I was told there will be a new uniform for the Wake game. Not sure the design will be any different from last season but what I was told will make a lot of folks happy.

What you got against light blue? I would be ecstatic if we ever got a light blue uni kit.
