a) Current Event capacities have nothing to do with capacities in 3-4 months. This is too fluid a situation

b) We are currently back into volatile times. Things can & will change dramatically daily over the next 90 days.

So many unknowns - that said I'm optimistic about next fall. 02-13-banana
Lets continue to throw away joy of every kind for the illusion of safety. There is approaching 0 risk for college aged athletes and the vast vast majority of the administration that supports them.

Case rates are soaring based on absurdly high cycle thresholds, in most states being ~40. This high and you will catch mostly people who have recovered from COVID. This is not good epidemiology. New York Times is reported this in August and still nothing has been done about it. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/29/healt...sting.html

This becomes increasingly problematic as more and more people have recovered but will still test positive with tests that are too sensitive.

This is not questioning the validity of the covid pandemic, but rather our response to it which is flawed flawed flawed.

Oh look, Cent willfully misses the point about low-risk people contributing to the nationwide spread of COVID to high-risk people for the 870th time.

The problem with cycle threshold is that the COVID recovery process is often drawn out, not unlike other illnesses. At what point in a cold do you medically no longer have a cold? How many less sniffles or coughs before you're "negative" for a cold?

It would be nice if everyone would agree on an acceptable cycle threshold standard, but a) we're very clearly trying to determine a black or white positive/negative for an illness progression with many many shades of gray b) there's no way to know if a cycle threshold of 40 is someone who just got infected and is going to become far more infectious, or if it's someone who has mostly recovered.

Cycle threshold as it pertains to positive/negative diagnosis for COVID isn't the seamlessly effective process we'd all prefer, but if that's your major takeaway for how our nation's response has been flawed, you're missing the point.

Oh, and sports. This seems like a great idea. What could go wrong? NCAA plans to move entire 68-team basketball tournament to one city in 2021; discussing with Indianapolis

Last Tuesday, a couple of buds and I were at BW3 for lunch.

I chose Coors Light draft because I am a cheap bastard and I love me some clean, crisp, American draft beer. One of my buds criticized my selection and told me how much superior his own choice, Miller Lite, is.

I bet him that he couldn't tell the difference between Coors Light and Miller Lite. He scoffed and insisted that he could tell the difference immediately. So, I had the waitress bring him two unmarked samplers of the two and only she would know which was which.

He proceeded to taste the two. It took him a couple of sips before he declared which was which. He was wrong!

We all cracked up, even the waitress, and rubbed his nose in it. Then, just for grins, my other bud and I drank from the glasses that he had just drank from to see if we could tell any difference. There was a slight difference. Coors was a little stronger but darned close in taste.

The next day, our bud, who couldn't tell the difference between Coors Light and Miller Lite, wasn't feeling so great and tested positive for Covid.

Whoa! Just 24 hours earlier, my other bud and I had been sharing his beer glass.

He is doing well and staying home. He can't smell or taste anything, which is pure hell for a Bourbon lover, but he is otherwise fine.

My other bud and I have no symptoms at all. That is how weird this whole, crazy Covid business is.

By the way, it appears he was infected at a wedding in Williamsburg the weekend before, as others at the wedding also became infected. So, he was Covid-positive when we were drinking from his beer glass.

I'm sorry your friend is sick. However, this post would have been a lot funnier if, having started with your desire to escape stupid political arguments, the visit to the bar degenerated into a vicious dispute over whether the best quality of Miller Lite is its being less filling or, instead, that it tastes great.

And, BTW, you gents need to drink better beer.

Mighty big of you. And, you are not a poor excuse for a moderator. You were just feeling passionate about your convictions. We have all been there.

Love you, brother!
It seems that there have been some paying customers allowed to attend JMU Hoops games.

Quote:Who is getting access to request tickets for the Maryland game?
Access to request tickets for the JMU vs. Maryland game on Saturday, December 5 was only provided to the top 50 Duke Club donors based on priority point rank. With such a limited number of tickets available, it is anticipated that only 15 accounts will gain access to tickets (max 4 per account). Requests are not guaranteed and will be filled in priority point order following the deadline (Thursday, Dec. 3 at noon).

How can I get tickets to a future game?
Duke Club members will receive the opportunity to request tickets for upcoming games based on schedule and capacity. The next opportunity to request tickets will include only the women's basketball games on December 6 and 9 has been sent to current Duke Club members with the priority deadline to request being December 3 at 5 p.m. A second opportunity to request tickets for the six men's and women's CAA games to be played between January 3 and January 17 will be offered on December 10 with the priority deadline to request being December 16 at 5 p.m. Requests are not guaranteed and will be filled in priority point order following the respective priority deadlines.

How were tickets assigned for the first few games?
Ticket access for the first block of non-conference games - through November 30 - was offered in the order below, based on Duke Club priority rank within each group.
1) Duke Club donors who made a major gift of $25,000 or more to the Atlantic Union Bank Center project
2) Current Duke Club donors and basketball season ticket holders

As students return in January the spirit squads will soak up most of the tickets. A couple of us may have a chance to see a game this winter!

It’s nice to watch some games. I’m happy for the players every time they tip off.
Western Carolina (D1AA) playing UNC today

Carolina quoted below, calling everyone to try and make schedule work for games. A dream scenario for JMU.

Sounds like Kent State playing UVA last night.

I mean, you've seen his posts on here since then, right?

slight correction, ODU is Dukeman1/2/3/4/3PO's 3rd favorite team.

his loyalties go:

App State
Charlotte
ODU
JMU

although Coastal might crack that top 4 and bump his alma mater down a notch soon.

It doesn't matter how much clear evidence there is that the programs they claim have passed us haven't actually passed us in overall national relevance, they'll still spin their narrative until they're blue in the face.
For some, being FBS is passing us. The designation alone does that for them. Even if the schools don’t win, they have passed us. If they have a good year, then that school has passed us by light years.

For me, it is who we are going to play as an FBS that matters? I am a season ticket holder and want to see entertaining games. If I am giving up playoffs, I want to see a conference schedule that gets me excited. Pay game beat downs at Ohio St. don’t do a thing for me. Why anyone gets excited getting their butt handed to them on a silver platter by a big name school is hard for me to understand. It is no better than beating Norfolk St. by a wide margin. It isn’t entertainment.

I look forward to JMU playing in a competitive FBS league loaded with rivalries some day. I just hope I am alive to witness those games in person.
Just wanted to check in and state the obvious...

This sucks.

Carry on.
