I would love to see Johnston step up big time

Me too. We've all been waiting for him to live up to the 4 star hype. In reality, it may be a reminder that rating players is a very imperfect science. Our all-time leading rusher is a 2 star, as are several key players for us.

By the way, the article lists Johnston as a junior, though he will be a senior this season. His brother, who is a year older than him, is a year behind him eligibility wise.

just looked at his bio. his season high for tackles came in the bowl game
If Rayam’s grades are in order, I’m starting him over Wilder. Could even put Street up there. Kelle Sanders and Alex Wright have to be out there, too. Literally, the whole group should be out there over him. Johnston is good at what, exactly?

I'm a big fan of Rayam and think he'll have a big impact at some point. But, the plan for him is on the outside and not at Wilder's spot. I would think Street or Troy Young could end up inside. I also think that Wilder is really solid - for the most part - against the run and he beat the odds last year by coming out of nowhere to win a starting job. Numbers should be really good throughout the linebacker position.

Not mentioning Alex Wright in that writeup is a sign of not doing some homework. Wright's potential is out of this world.

Wright has the tools and game to grow into a draft pick.

However, if there is one position where our higher rated recrujts have struggled to find playing time, its linebacker. Johnston. Rayam. Conner. All were big recruiting wins but none have made an impact yet. Its early for two of them but...

Moll was one our last additions to his class, when we dropped another local LB recruit. Moll was a Lower level 2 star, along with Spencer Brown, BTW. Yet Moll shows up on the field as a true freshman making plays on special teams. Flashes speed, quickness and ability to read the play as a soph.

And how many walkon LBs have grown into starters? Mofor. Then the big surprise soph LB last yeqr, Wilder. Wilder made 85 tackles while Johnston mostly watched. How does that happen?

I like Wilders game but he is slower to get wide on a pitch and App St exploited that with their fast RB after the first quarter of the bowl game.

Who will be our out of nowhere LB this year?
