Looks like the Floyd case is actually forcing changes.
Well, Mississippi did finally approve the 13th Amendment in 2013, so there are some signs of progress there. Maybe the flag will only take another century and a half to change.

I would think a Conference Commissioner would be smart to not engage himself in the affairs of state politics, especially a State in which he does not reside.

You're assuming he acted alone and didn't consider the opinions of other people which I am sure he did.

The NCAA has banned Mississippi from hosting predetermined NCAA championship events in Mississippi because of the Confederate flag for years. They're still allowed to host baseball championships or women's basketball championships since they are earned although there was talk that they could be denied that right before all of these events occurred and it wouldn't be surprising if the NCAA acted now to ban the state of Mississippi from all championship events, pre-determined or earned, until the Confederate flag comes down.

Here's a USA Today article about the name "Rebels": https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/co...219479001/

I personally don't even see the point in using "Ole Miss".

Its probably the SEC presidents pushing this.

If he's acting alone, he should be fired for stirring up a hornet's nest.
It's no longer just the $€¢ doing this. The NCAA just did the same, on Juneteenth, no less.
Alabama
Arkansas
Florida
Georgia
Hawaii
Ohio
Tennessee
Texas
District Columbia
Puerto Rico

Those have flags that still have some simbilance to the civil war. The Rebel flag is actually a version similar to the British's Union Jack flags.

What is Hawai'i's relation to the Civil War? Did Hawai'ians even know the Civil War was going on?

It's more likely that Disney is pushing this. But yes Sankey should be fired.

And to David Street: The St. Andrew's Cross predated the Civil War by hundreds of years. The Union Jack and any flag that has what millennials would call an X in the field is patterned after the St. Andrew's cross and doesn't have one damned thing to do with slavery. Many of those were used as Naval Ensigns because they are easier to distinguish. Even the Crossed Bones of Pirates flags borrowed the recognizable pattern. The Confederate Battle Ensign became the most recognized of Confederate Flags and I get it's connection to slavery, but Florida and Alabama used flags that once served as Spanish Naval Ensigns. The Union Jack is British. Again ignorance is search of a cause.

The rebel flag was designed after the St. Andrew's Cross just like the Union Jack. All these flags are similar in the way.

The states of the Confederacy legally separated themselves from the United States and should not be referred to as rebels.

Its not in wiki which only covers the official flags, and there were no official flags in MS until 1861, but I've read elsewhere that Mississippi's flag is basically the unofficial flag of the 1840s and 1850s.

Bullet you can look up the regimental flags of the confederacy and see that Mississippi's flag and what was once Tennessee's flag were indeed either identical or extremely close in design to the regimental flags.
