Closer to home and a better opportunity to get touches...I think that worked out pretty well. He wasn't getting time at UC with our WR Room in complete upheaval, so I doubt he had illusions about getting a better setup than a MAC level gig.

I don't blame him for deciding to transfer this year, and I do think he would have had similar numbers next year considering he was among the team leaders in receptions and yards last year. I just believe that since it took him more time than expected to make a decision, maybe he thought he would have more choices and possibly a P5 might make an offer.

Damn, the best coach we know has players calling exit. How can that be? Are FB practices to blame?

Yup no juice box breaks.

You are absolutely insufferable.

Bearhawkeye gave him a rep bump for that comment...unbelievable.

Hey Karen, what's your deal with the rep obsession (including your petty attack on mine last week)? Take your stalker crush elsewhere please. Rath seems lonely...

In the last month only Bearhawkeye has given him rep bumps and he's done it to the tune of 11 rep points, most 1 point bumps.

Not sure I've ever seen that before.

I appreciate having some posters who challenge the status quo and groupthink (whether it's constant negativity or sunshine blowing). I've never seen a mod call out and seemingly challenge the giving of rep points in a post. Seems kind of creepy and petty.

Oh relax. I commented on something I thought was funny. One of the posters said you gave him a rep for that comment and after reading his post i thought he must be joking. But then I check and see you've been his personal fan 1 man fan club. I found it funny.

Ah, so student athletes can either play sports or work in fast food. Good to know. I’d call you an idiot, but you do so well yourself to make it abundantly obvious.

Of course, it's not literally true, but there's a lot of truth to it. For every player who is good enough to earn a check playing, there are 5 who falsely believe that to be true, and it's driving a lot of the insanity of players hopping from school to school and de-valuing the opportunity of a free education

Regrettably too few players study something that creates an employment skill like Engineering, chem, physics, accounting, teaching, etc.

Most athletes are not strong enough students to study 1-4, but their failure to major in education befuddles me. They would be in high demand as HS coaches, and teaching/coaching HS is the perfect fallback career for NCAA athletes who aren't good enough to go pro, or don't make enough money at it to set themselves up for life.

I’m with you on this! Great observation! If the coaches are all about the S-A, then help them choose a major that’s going to Be more marketable. A real skill or major that can be used after sports. Don’t Just look the other way. Obviously it’s up to the student athletes as well. In some cases they’ve already been pushed along the system and not invested the time academically so it may be difficult for them. But I would think an education degree is not too terribly difficult.
(04-22-2021 09:24 AM)Bruce Monnin Wrote: [ -> ]Years ago, I was told that, even at UC, coaches (football and basketball) actively discouraged athletes from difficult majors that would take away from their times with the team. The coaches would have loved every player on the team to have the same major so they could more easily schedule practices.

Maybe that's why every basketball player under Huggins seemed to major in Criminal Justice.

I seem to recall Ohio State having a Heisman type running back who majored in pre-med and had to fight the OSU staff to be allowed to do so.

Actively discouraging someone from choosing a difficult major is a darn shame about the system. It’s disgusting.

I like jokes - what was the "joke"? Some immature clown with a history of petty vindictive downvotes decides to go at me for an upvote to another poster. You decide to dig deeper into the "scandal" to call out the results of your investigation and later imply I have a creepy attachment to the poster. How many rep points make it a #1 fan club? How many rep points have I given you?

Why am I being told to "relax" and "stop reading so much into it" (as if that is ever offered out of genuine goodwill) for simply defending myself over the offense of giving out an upvote? Wouldn't that advice have been more appropriate to the clown trying to make an issue of an upvote to another poster? Have you considered whether you should follow your own demands rather than take these flailing swings at me?

Anyway, hopefully back to the transfer portal...
Quote:Gabe O'Neal has entered the transfer portal after playing one season at Kent State.

O'Neal, a 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward, joined the Golden Flashes program as a junior college transfer from Mineral Area College in Missouri after starring at Cincinnati Princeton High School. He averaged 4.7 points and three rebounds per game as a junior for the Flashes in 2020-21. O'Neal shot 64 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line in a reserve role, averaging 11 minutes per contest.

O'Neal is the sixth player on the Flashes roster at the beginning of the 2020-21 season to enter the transfer portal,

Not the most impressive credentials, but I guess he'd be a big body for presumably just one-year. I'm sure we could drum up some strong enthusiasm (FG% and FT %!) here if Coach wants him.

Seems pretty simple to me. One group left because the coach wasn’t good enough. The other groupe left because they weren’t good enough. I will let you connect the dots.
Speaking of Rep points, when am I able to give them out? After I got to 1,000 posts it let me for a few months, then the option disappeared. Did the rules change, or did I get put on double secret probation?

I tried PMing Mark, but either I sent it to the wrong Mark, he ignored it, or didn't see it. All of which are fine. I'm more curious than anything.
OT: I have to say that I don't usually look at my "Reputation" points. It's far too...high school. I mean, I appreciate the little "clap on the back," but I much more appreciate those who interact with me out in the discussion itself. Yes, even those who have called me out, from time-to-time. (Because, frankly, I can be wrong a whole lot of the time, and none of us get along with "everyone" all of the time...)

I don't think I have met anyone on this forum face-to-face but I feel like I have gotten to know many of you over the years. "BearHawkeye," "BearcatMark," "BearcatDub," "ZCat," "ZFly," "RingofBlack"/"BJ"... And more... The reason I hang out here is because I actually have come to LIKE people on this board, even when I disagree with them. Y'all have become my friends of a sort. And so, occasionally I'll pop a "+2" or "+3" on a rep when someone has said something really creative or funny. I don't remember the last time I "neg repped" anyone...

Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled program.

It's a complicated formula, but essentially what it comes down to is any poster with at least 1 more post than Z-Fly can give rep points.

(I'll look into it)
