This might be the worst use of scholarship money I've ever heard of.

What an idiot
(03-30-2021 11:09 AM)Captain Bearcat Wrote: [ -> ]Most PhD programs pay you more than room & board & cost of living. At least, if the PhD is worth anything on the job market.

Most business, engineering, and hard science PhD programs cover 100% of tuition and pay stipends of $20-$25k/year. Harvard pays minimum of $33,000 for liberal arts PhDs, and more for top students. I've heard that Tennessee has an endowment that pays their management PhD students $40,000/year.

Brady White is getting a PhD in liberal studies from Memphis. That pays $12,000/year (and not every student gets paid).

UC engineering pays fairly well so I'm aware of it. Other graduate students have to fight tooth and nail for decent pay.

Most importantly, getting funding from somewhere else (as opposed to traditional means) opens some doors for your advisor. I know some Engineering grad students that have been here long enough that their advisors essentially have them working for free. PhD programs are often well provided in the States but not a guarantee, especially for something like liberal arts, as you said.

if Brooks was as intelligent as Mick bragged about him, then he should be working on a doctorate by now.
Awesome insight.

Unfortunately they do not pay you for degrees. LOL.

In other Florida news:

Forward Omar Payne entered the transfer portal Tuesday and became the fifth player to leave coach Mike White's program since the end of the season.

What a terrible coach! Right guys? We need to recognize 2021 for what it is. But then, that requires thinking.

Are those all freshmen he recruited to play for him who he called "the foundation of [his] program" as well without any recruits coming in this class? Would certainly be a red flag.

Guess Lisa is the only one thinking on here guys, shut it down.

A wise man once told me, "The bank doesn't accept degrees. The bank accepts cash."

Well, I can think of two 40 point a$$ beatings from Houston for starters.
4 we offered last year from Gary Clark country just hit the portal. Didn't see much action this year unlike our late great frosh class.

How the heck is that possible? Either Isaih knows something we don't or he just wants to be a Bearcat no matter who the coach.
Option C, he doesn't check message boards 10 times every day.

i know ppl wanted Coach Brannen out but i almost hope that there is cause at this point since it seems like every team is dropping at least 3 players...

That puts Memphis up to 5 transfers.

Ahmad Rand left the program in early January and transferred Oregon State.

Lance Thomas transferred from Memphis to South Alabama on March 7th.
As I mentioned...Pruning the tree for new growth for a lot of these guys. Penny was recruiting hard all year and had zero open scholarships for next season. Ta da!

Heck they had 4 commits and the 6th rated class for 21’ with no open spots.
We'll soon be the Cleveland Browns of College Basketball.

When is he going to start turning these Top 15 classes that only stay together for one year into NCAA Tourney appearances?
