Quote:More than 600 doctors signed onto a letter sent to President Trump Tuesday pushing him to end the "national shutdown" aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus, calling the widespread state orders keeping businesses closed and kids home from school a "mass casualty incident" with "exponentially growing health consequences."

The letter outlines a variety of consequences that the doctors have observed resulting from the coronavirus shutdowns, including patients missing routine checkups that could detect things like heart problems or cancer, increases in substance and alcohol abuse, and increases in financial instability that could lead to "[p]overty and financial uncertainty," which "is closely linked to poor health."

"We are alarmed at what appears to be the lack of consideration for the future health of our patients," the doctors say in their letter. "The downstream health effects ... are being massively under-estimated and under-reported. This is an order of magnitude error."

The letter continues: "The millions of casualties of a continued shutdown will be hiding in plain sight, but they will be called alcoholism, homelessness, suicide, heart attack, stroke, or kidney failure. In youths it will be called financial instability, unemployment, despair, drug addiction, unplanned pregnancies, poverty, and abuse.

"Because the harm is diffuse, there are those who hold that it does not exist. We, the undersigned, know otherwise."
Kap, I stated from the beginning of this self induced bs, the residual impact is immeasurable and will easily overwhelm more than many can afford....

it's simply time to end all this bs before the chinga-dinga-lings release the next version that will truly overwhelm....

focus was lost from the very beginning....DJT never had a chance how 'they' played this chess move....

ol' boy got his arse handed to him this time...

Stink, I think Trump was over a barrel on this one, damned if you do, damned if you don't. He opted to err on the side of caution because he knew that half of the country is mentally ill (TDS) and will blame him no matter what. The other half could go either way, depending on how things go. Therefore, he opted to listen to his pandemic 'experts' and their ridiculous models.

Where I fault Trump is in not adjusting the strategy soon enough once it became clear that our approach was not the best one to help us get to herd immunity. He has pushed more aggressively lately to get the country open but because he (rightly) chose a federalism approach, the blue state governors are stalling, hoping to hurt him. I think a lot of folks will see the disparity btw red and blue states soon and Trump will not be blamed by those other than the always angry TDS crowd.
