They should just make the convention follow whatever guidelines everyone else has to follow.

I don’t know what the public reaction would be if Charlotte clamps down on the GOP Convention. But just my honest opinion, I hope they do shut it down. And I hope Milwaukee shuts down the Dem. Convention. And then the whole country can have a real-world demonstration of how the absence of these Conventions doesn’t matter at all, because the Conventions themselves don’t matter at all. And then people will wonder why it took so long to get rid of them.

The Ford/Reagan battle in 1976 — 44 years ago — was the last time an actual, important political decision was made at one of these things. Even then, the national Conventions were 90% show and 10% substance. And since then it’s been 100% show. There’s just no reason to keep repeating them over and over again.

Let'em! DFW would take them in a heartbeat. Mobile to Gulf Shores could put them up. There would be plenty of alternatives. It would only be hurtful to the hospitality industry and restaurants in North Carolina.

We only have 1 party anyway, the corporate party.

IF the UNC system reopens in August I don't see how he can shut down the convention. There IS NO social distancing on a college campus. Two students sharing a 12x12 room and a common bathroom with 50 other students isn't social distancing. Attending in person classes with 60 other students sitting three feet apart best case isn't social distancing. Governor ROY could kill ACC football if he shuts down North Carolina Universities. If UNC and NC State don't open you can bet Duke and Wake Forest follow that so no ACC football that would be a politically limiting move by ambulance chaser Cooper.
