Hey, I thought it would be good to have a thread on the main board covering the NFL draft that starts tonight. I know there is a Bengals draft thread in the off-topic forum but for those of us who aren't fans/followers of the Bengals and for those who are just interested in college players getting drafted in general this would be a spot for those discussions. I assume Mr. Deguara will get his name called at some point over the weekend and maybe Truck Warren possibly. I'm also curious when/where Tua will get drafted and Clemson's Isaiah Simmons. If the mods disagree, then they can move the thread - no problemo.

2020 NFL Draft Coverage Options

In 1968 we drafted a small town southern Ohio phenom who could have led the Bengals to greatness were it not for an unfortunate hit by Jim Lynch. In 2020 we have another chance. Let's make sure we can protect him.
The Bengals are going to take Joe Burrow... right?

Saints: Well give you our entire draft for your first round spot.
Bengals: Oh hail no. We have to have Akili Smith.
With Tyler Eifert departing, is there any chance the Bengals will take Deguara? I'm not too familiar with how his draft stock is viewed.
I tell you one thing...

After being starved for a month, I bet this NFL draft will have higher TV ratings than the moon landing.

This is per Justin Williams/The Athletic "Deguara projects as more of an H-back or fullback than a tight end at the NFL level, and his goal is to be a four-phase special-teams player, out there on every unit. Some projections have him going as early as the third round, and he should certainly be off the board by the fifth or sixth. Regardless, it’s a long way from a two-star prospect buried down the depth chart at UC. The Bengals have even become a popular mock destination thanks to his history with Taylor and the connection he made with tight ends coach James Casey at the Senior Bowl."
It is so funny to me that Zac Taylor was Deguara's offensive coordinator for a year.

I was thinking the same thing. This is the closest to real sports excitement that we've had since the end of the college hoops season. Everyone's at home picking their noses and scratching their sacks anyway. Seriously, just the fact this is the first "virtual" draft in history makes it interesting...make that "social distancing friendly."
Congrats Bengals Nation! Great pick. No brainer pick. Franchise changing pick. The only pick to make really.
So, Tua #5 to the Dolphins and Simmons #8 to Arizona. Miami has three #1's so it makes sense they can take Tua with some injury questions at that spot. A mild surprise that Zona took Simmons but the kid has versatile talent. No trades thus far...
Thank you Cleveland for not overthinking the 10th pick with arguably the top OL tackle prospect going in to the draft. Bookend tackles in Cleveland baby!

with a few rare exceptions, the bengals have historically avoided drafting bearcats. I could never understand that but then again, their draft years have had lots of flops due to Mike Brown not having a general manager to help.

Deguara seems like he could be a nice FB/TE hybrid in the NFL. That's a late round choice though and only if you're looking for that.

No surprise that Vegas and the NFL continually tell you that the best players play in the SEC. It doesn't mean that every SEC team is better than every team from other conferences but teams like Clemson and OSU get breathers that LSU and Alabama don't. Middle tier SEC teams still have NFL talent

And Clemson and OSU recruit just as good as Bama/LSU; it's just their competition makes it easier to get to the playoff.
