How much is your school getting and is that "new found extra money" going to your football program or head coach?

"The University of Michigan, which is a public school with more than $12 billion in the bank, still got a $25 million bailout. They plan to spend $8 million on their football coach this year. They're still going to lose to Ohio State, which got $45 million in bailout money. That school pays its coaching staff $11 million."

Yeah, but if you confront any of these school officials about taking this money, they'll just stand there with their shoulders shrugged and their pants pockets pulled inside out.
Meanwhile, there are schools in both of those states staring down $40,000,000-$80,000,000 in budget cuts with 1/10th the endowment and they haven't gotten jack **** from the federal government.
UM would have been better off not paying that 8 mill.
UCF got 50 something million.

As an Ohio State alum I’ll note 3 points.

1) The coaching salaries for the assistants at Ohio State are insane. 4 coaches not named Ryan Day are making over 1 mil and in some cases well over 1 mil. JOKE

2) I’m 99% sure that Ohio State was only one of three schools that gave money back to Academic side during my time in college (2012-2016). Texas was the other and a Notre Dame guy on here (Terry) said ND also does but I don’t think they were included in the report as they are private. I would not think OHIO STATE athletics is giving money back to academics any longer as they ran a deficit for the first time in many years in 2018 and also did in 2019. Regardless of giving money back or not to academics, I think the coaching salaries at the top programs are bonkers. In many cases, they are the highest paid employee of the state. I love college football more than anything else but that is a JOKE.

3) Athletic and Academic budgets are usually kept separated from each other and the bailouts I’m sure won’t touch one part of Athletics. While I’d love for coaching salaries to be more realistic for many reasons including not being able to take any of our coaches at will, this isn’t really a good argument IMO.
