While the signing last week of Post Player.Jonathan Komagum makes this news irrelevant, it was still interesting to see that Toledo 2020 Class Transfer Targets Brendan Medley-Bacon (Coppin St) and Cordell Pemsl (Iowa) signed with VCU and Virginia Tech respectively within the past couple of days.
both of those moves make sense. medley-bacon goes to a stronger league but not the toughest and stays nearby at vcu. pemsl, when fully healthy, as he appears to be now, is a starter or 6th man most anywhere. he's a 5th year senior. smart for us to reach out and recruit him on short notice. for a guy like that. it's do you want to be a rotation guy or 5th starter on a big time team somewhere else or play for a good mid major or tween power 5 program and be a key guy.

also saw that a'danavanzo (sp?) the illinois D2 transfer from lewis, shooting forward that had toledo on his list went downstate to s. illinois.

and longtime toledo offer, and one of the more interesting human stories in athletic recruiting, terrance thompson from chicago via lacrosse, wi has signed with coack k's old school of uw-green bay. big muscular power forward with a motor but average skills who lived most of his life with undiagnosed vision issues until legally blind , who got his sight for the first time as a high school junior. will be an interesting player to keep an eye on at green bay.

you know, i'm satisfied with the last 2 jucos. they weren't the big splash transfer, but it was good to add a couple longer athletic guys with some aggressiveness and more experience than a freshman. neither is 7-1 but both both cover a lot of space and get above the rim. also like that we got the walsh transfer. great to have him develop for a year. get better, become a contributor and maybe leader as a 4th and 5th year guy.
Donavan Moore posted on twitter that he has committed to Wisconsin Green Bay. A high scoring high school player he never was able to gain the coaches confidence at UT. It will be interesting to see how he does at Div 1 Green Bay.

Probably end up being the league MVP...
It seemed like Donovan had trouble handling the ball to me in the limited number of times I saw him. I was excited about his potential coming out of high school. Short comings are more glaring at the next level, but you have to be able to make the turn. The transfer can really help a young guy grow. I hope he gains the confidence and develops a complete game.

c'mon, if we gave freelove the ball we would be able to run a 34 second play for jake barnett every time down the court.

No one can improve that much. He was in a situation where he was direly needed and could not play well enough to get any time. Can't believe he even got a D1 scholarship

Got TWO D1 schollies.
really good athlete who can potentially defend and rebound well for a guard. not a good shooter and a mediocre ballhandler. the horizon is a little lower competition top to bottom than the MAC and may give moore a better opportunity to grow into a good role player who makes the occasional highlight reel play. btw moore had a slew of midwest mid major offers
Verbal Commits now has Medley-Bacon going back to Coppin State
Etherington has committed to U Indianapolis. A very good DII team.
I wish him luck. The knock on him is that he doesn't take instruction well and is not the hardest worker. He won't get minutes their either.

If he stayed he was bound to be another Dylan Alderson as far as output goes.

I hope basketball earns the young man a degree. That SHOULD be the end all goal for 99.9 % of these kids but really isn't.
yeah, him came into his first camp out of shape and that put him on the wrong side of the staff from the jump.

degrees are good, but life can go in a lot of directions. one thing for these scholarship guys is to really explore the academic opportunities. find your niche, whether it ends up with a degree or not. think of terry crews at western who was a football player that got into theatre in college and ended up as a very successful actor. the degree in that situation is unnecessary but the college opportunity to find your passion was essential. as an athlete under scholarship you get to either a) get a free degree or b) get a free education of your choosing without the financial pressure of it immediately resulting in a job to pay off all your student loans.

This kind of college experience is true for any student ... athletic scholarship or not.
