So far Tarleton has scheduled three in-state FBS opponents over the next 5 seasons:

@TCU - Nov. 2022 - $550k guarantee
@Texas Tech - Sept. 16, 2023 - $TBD
@Texas A&M - Nov. 22, 2025 - $500k guarantee

The money isn't great, but travel will be negligible. For Tarleton this is all about exposure.

Funny thing is if Tarleton State was D1, those paydays would be well over $1 Million dollars each. But it would mean Tarleton State would need to invest a lot more money into increasing the size of its football facility; making it 20K to 30K in capacity.
Really? I don’t think anyone ever thought of that.

Plans are in the works

I don't think anyone is planning that far ahead with that kind of success for us to be FBS.

I thought FBS was 15k minimum.

From what I've heard Tarleton has no FBS aspirations in the near future. Wouldn't be prudent at this juncture. I'm kinda fired up to see what the WAC ends up doing with football. WAC basketball is shaping up to be a fun and well-coached conference. Hopefully they can do the same in football...bring in, say, WTAMU and Angelo State? And perhaps that school up in Flagstaff? Who else fits the bill? And what do they do with the Lobos...I mean, the Aggies? 04-cheers

Out of wanting the rivalry to live, potentially the school in Wichita Falls. To your first point, not going to disagree. Far too early to think about crossing that bridge. Very interested in potential WAC football.
Midwestern will never be D1. They do not have the financial backing as a stand alone institution. The A&M BOR is the number 1 reason we made the move. Number 2 if you put Lonn in front.

I get that, but I don't like seeing rivalries die.
I agree MSU was a great football rivalry, but I see them as a lifelong D2 powerhouse. And they probably have zero interest in changing that, especially now that Tarleton is out of their way. I saw in another post about possible SLC moves to the WAC. Now that sounds interesting. ACU would surely be accepted with open arms, they're a perfect fit geographically. And I know Tarleton would love to get that rivalry going again.

The nice thing about being D1 is we can continue the rivalry with ACU even if we are in different conferences. There is always a need to fill out of conference schedules. I could see us trying to build annual OOCs with ACU and UTA to build geographic rivalries.

A Tarleton/UTA football revival would be awesome! But we know it will never happen. UT BOR, for whatever reason, hates the idea of reinstating Mavs football. Alot of D/FW folks may not know this, but Tarleton/UTA have a legendary past when they were both football-playing JCs. Rivalry was so fierce at one point that UTA students rented and flew a couple of prop planes to Stephenville to drop bombs on the bonfire while it was being built. Under attack, TSU students scurried and climbed the smokestack and threw rocks, sticks, and what-have-you at the planes, causing one to crash into campus. TSU ended up taking both UTA pilots hostage and shaved their heads into a "T"... I think they played on Thanksgiving every year.

Haha, I'm sure everyone on here knows that story by heart.

Football may not ever happen with UTA, but we could play them every year in every other sport( basketball, baseball, volleyball) . We could even develop a silver bugle trophy

Truth be told, we know that football is going to be an FCS schedule. A roadtrip against Big 12 or SEC team but they are not coming to Stephenville in football.

However, I am more excited for other sports..... Rice coming to Cecil Ballow, TCU or Tech coming to Wisdom is not outside of possibility in a couple years.

If you don't did you even attend Tarleton? Definitely for rekindling the ACU rivalry.

I don't know, we might could see a home & home with UTEP. But other than that I agree it will all be mercy/money away games for FBS. TCU/Tarleton basketball could end up being a thing. Didn't we beat them a while back in their own backyard?

Say what you will but everyone needs weeknight games and baseball RPI favors going on the road.

Baseball seems to be especially common since northern schools travel south early in the season for games.

Go look at some of the Southland, WAC, CUSA and Sun Belt schedules and you will see marquee home games against name opponents. Why go D1 if you're not playing D1 teams and sometimes you get them at home (even if you have to sign a 2 for 1).
I really wish we could get a game against yall. Half of my cousins went to Tarleton and one is currently a professor or some sort. Heck if any of yall attended in the 2000s you probably know some of them.

I assume it is a matter of if not when. Tarletons been to Bobcat Stadium a couple of times.

An FCS move up that is a couple hours away and buys tickets is not something LT can turn down.
