Interesting insight on how they are providing care, how bad it's been, if he thinks it will get bad or not...

This was really posted in contrast to this article in the NYT, which is horrible, but not the situation everywhere else, like they would like you to think

And yet the Javits Center facility put together by the Army COE has something like a couple hundred people using 2500 beds and the hospital ship has something like 50 patients using 1000 beds. Something is really wrong with their resource allocation.

cause if you look at the data and not the news, **** doesn't add up.
Another large hospital system in Memphis is Methodist Hospital.

I'm in a FB thread discussing the virus and a few nurses from Methodist are complaining that about 60 nurses have been recently laid off. They also say they're not seeing anywhere near the activity level the news makes it out to be.

Not every nurse is equal. With them shutting down most procedures anyone that isn't in critical care isn't needed right now. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on perspective my wife's job is safe because no one would ever choose to be in that unit.
Very interesting article, thanks for sharing.

but don't worry, we are getting a second emergency hospital when projections don't even show us needing one.

Quote:While updated projections from Vanderbilt University show the COVID-19 could leave area hospitals with capacity to spare, the Memphis and Shelby County joint task-force is preparing for possibility that it won't be and the overflow space will be needed.
In Owensboro Ky, where I live, they have two very large tents, setup to handle the overwhelming number of coronavirus cases...

total of 6 people in the hospital with the virus, taking up a bed. With one of those in ICU. But that was late last week and I'm sure those tents are overflowing, today.

I work for the hospital system in the article, my wife is an advanced clinical ICU nurse at the hospital.

Nurses from various units across the organization are being utilized in some capacity... to back fill, alongside critcial care nurses, call centers, drive thru testing etc...

No reason nurses should be laid off during this.

yep, a friend from church works in the Baptist group as a physical therapist. They've been retasked to take temps at the hospital entrance.

My wife decided to stop her PT until this virus is contained. A lot of people that were also going are not. It used to be that I could wait in the waiting room but they kicked me out so I had to wait in my car at the parking lot.
My mother was in the hospital at baptist desoto for 4 days last week. It was basically a ghost town in there according to her. They had tents set up outside the emergency room. They had people at the door testing the temperatures of anyone who came inside. They all had plenty of PPE.

MS and AR are the wild cards in Memphis/Shelby County. While Memphis/SC may be okay, we don't know how many people we're going to start getting from North MS and Eastern AR. They won't send them to Little Rock or Jackson.
