Quote:Mark Ingram is in his closet on the phone, surrounded by clothes, trying to land a basketball coach.

No, this was not how the UAB athletic director planned to find his next coach, but it was the best of his limited options. With four active kids buzzing around the house and two Beagles that “bark like Cujo protecting the family” at everything that moves, it was the only quiet place Ingram could find at home to work the phones.
What wasn’t discussed is that representatives or people from UAB were reaching out to perspective coaches about two weeks before the end of the season. Not sure how many were contacted.
More likely two weeks into the season. This was never going to get better. We did the right thing. Lets move forward now. No guarantee this program will ever get back to where it was but this at least gives us a chance. A chance we had to take sooner rather than later.
Kennedy wasn't hanging around the program for the heck of it.
The decision was probably made a few weeks before the end of the season.
Ingram had to include other people in the mix for coaching prospects just to make it look legit.

This article is quite laughable though because pretty much everything had already been decided.

Deservedly so based on his results to that point, outside of a possible miracle run in March
I would have thought he'd have gone into his office to make the calls - nobody else would have been there. I've had to go in a time or 2 to work since we went remote & I end up being only one in building.
Coaches shop around when they are doing well long before the season is over. AD’s look around for new coaches long before unsuccessful seasons are over. Based on the results Ingram had to go by, he was justified in making the decision public when he did. We shouldn’t have been bad to the point that we were playing on Day 1 of the conference tournament. Moving on.
Says AK has passed up other opportunities since leaving Ole Miss.
I don’t really follow the coaching carousel...anybody know of the other jobs where AK may have been in the mix?
Tulane prior to hiring Ron Hunter

Well said.

This. I know he talked about joining Auburn's staff before taking the SEC job too.
One more thing. Without the Foundation this hire doesn’t happen. We would be sitting here complaining about the assistant we just hired.
Back in my day Blazertalk wouldn’t have gone 24 minutes much less 24 hours without making a joke about Fumbles being in or out of the closet. We used to be a much happier bunch

I don't get the dinging of Ingram. From a purely outside perspective, he's gotten a lot done.

He is seen as a watts lackey by many.

Excellent point.
Well, he's hired the fans choice for basketball coach the 2nd time in a row.

There isn't any doubt that the foundation bought out Ehsan.

The program couldn't afford to buy out Ehsan after next year with the limited number of tickets that are sold to the games.
Limited # of tickets bc the coach sucked and the on the court results were bad and boring, and nobody wanted to watch that.
