Full Version: Can we afford Bill Armstrong

Armstrong left Ole Miss after the new chancellor failed to renew AK’s contract after going 22-14 and reaching the NIT quarterfinals. Just two years removed from reaching the round of 64. It was obvious the new boss wanted his own guy. This indicates it was not personal between Kennedy and Armstrong. The question is can we afford to steal an assistant from a successful SEC program?

The the answer is no unless he hates Baton Rouge with a passion
$600,000 more for the head coach.
add in a couple of hundred thousand more for assistants.

Our coaches will be paid better and attendance may jump slightly but we will probably not make as much money as we had this year. Without doing the figures I'm guessing we would need 4000 average attendance (not the fake attendance type that has been reported since Watts killed football)
I do find it interesting that Ward left Kennedy to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Not sure if it was the same type pursuing that Kennedy went after when he left Murry or not.

And wasn’t Torrey only an assistant at Illinois state?

He was promoted to associate head coach prior to his tragic death.

I remember that, now.

This whole thread is an economic discussion
I have knowledge that Bill’s next move will be for a head coaching job. He and his family are pretty happy in Baton Rouge.

Once the HBO special on cheating at LSU & Arizona airs at the end of the month Bill might be available. Just saying....

LSU already doubled down backing their head coach knowing full well what happened. He is even on tape. They are not getting rid of that coaching staff
There are several teams around that believe in winning at all costs.

I'm just glad this program cares about winning again, and its long suffering fans.

Thanks UAB.
I never mentioned who those teams were but putting words in others mouth seems to be another virus going around.

Yep. Glad finishing 7th in this conference isn’t good enough for some
We did technically just make a hire that finished pretty close to that on average at his previous job. Not sure I like that Pearson is being linked as an assistant because he hasnt won recruiting battles anywhere, as of late. Haase smoked him on Haha and Tosin. Kennedy will really have his work cut out for him without a guy like Pierre.

Pearson was somewhat responsible for some quality guys at UA during the Gottfried years. That’s been over a decade ago. Will see if he has those in-State ties still if we go that route. The state was locked down once Grant showed up at UAT, nothing they could do to pull from here to UGA

I was not a fan of AK and I considered him a safe choice not a great choice. Not who I wanted. After the hire I started researching a bit and its a much better hire than I realized. He is the most successful coach in Old Miss history. He had one bad year after the new chancellor made it clear he wanted to hire his own guy.

I’m on board. Decided not to endorse anybody. This was the only hire that could be made where somebody would know the history and understand what a bottomless pit it should not currently be. Spark is back for me as far as pure interest in the program.
